Strut mounting hardware

Post by DownSouth »

I will be replacing my struts soon and read that the mounting bolts may need replacing. Is an absolute necessity and if so, are these what I need and how many are required?

It's only necessary if you damage the threads excessively or have to cut the bolt off (since you're in FL I doubt it's THAT rusty). Best thing to do is spray the bolts with PB Blaster or equivalent, and when you go to hammer them out, use the nut to cover the outer threads that you would be hitting so you hit the nut instead of the threads.

Put a socket on the nut too, that helps even more at saving the parts.

Brass hammers work on this for not damaging the nut as well, thats how i remove mine. And i reused my old ones several time and never had a problem.

Cool...I'll try the suggested methods of removal. Just in case I do need new bolts, are the ones in the link the correct bolts?

Yes they work for 91 and older, 92+ was different and then again 96 was different.
