Anyone use OVERLAYS on their dashes?

Post by indyyellow »

Do they work? I am speaking if overlay that you glue down. If you existing dash is pretty warped seems to me that overlay is not going to work well. Can you you jsut take off the dash pad/cover and use the overlay in its place?

if you mean a dash cap then it depends on the year. they make them for 90 and earlier i think. i dug and dug the internet for one for my 94 and came up empty handed. i cut all the junk away that was warped and cracked. i settled on a dashmat by dash designs made out of velour. its held down with velcro and hopefully the color will match. if your dash is screwed up you have 3 options.........pro recover.......dash cap.....or dash mat.

i'll take a pic when i get it next week.

the 1990 there are several companies to get the caps for but I wonder if my dash is so pulled off the franming, cracked, warped, if a cap woould work on it.

Just pull the crappy vinyl off of it and lay fiberglass on it.

yes the caps are fairly hard plastic, and get urethaned right onto your old dash, you cut out warped sections or bubbles. i bought one years ago off of ebay for near $100 shipped, i sold it to the same guy i sold that particular car to, that was going to get it... years later... lol it looked half decent (uninstalled), you just pull your speaker grills off and reinstall them after you are done. it may not look perfect at the edges, but depends how much time and prep work you put into installing it as well...

this was for a 1990 and older dash.
4th one's a charm, 5th one is, beginnning to sound like this is an addiction...
