Thanks for the replies!
I have a full tank of gas btw...
I will buy a siphon to get it out though...
I finally got to check the fuel pressure cuz I got the 40 dollars to buy a check gauge...
From car off @ 0 PSI
turn key to run: 15 PSI
Start engine: 19 PSI
Fuel filter was changed so I guess the pump is old...
Also when the fuel filte got changed it was because of fuel pressure lower than this a couple years ago...
And idk where the old pressure tester went, that's why I bought a new one...lol

Well then your original post was incorrect, you had never checked the fuel pressure. That incorrect information is what lead me to believe that your pump was not the problem. With those pressures though that is your issue.
It should be 40-43PSI at key on, and around 35-40psi at idle running, depending on RPM. Vac line disconnected it will read the full 43PSI.
The 15PSI is key on not running right? if so then that means your regulator should still be ok since its holding whatever pressure the pump can supply.
My apologies, SGR looked into this a bit more and stated the issue was something that was already supposidly tested ok. Last time I did that I got told it was already done

Are you losing coolant?
If your head gasket is leaking, pressure builds but is overcome by the compression while the engine runs.
Once the engine is off, coolant system has pressure and leaks into the cylinder or cylinders and those plugs won't fire with water on them. OBD2 senses the misfire and shuts off fuel to those cylinders which is why you don't smell unburnt fuel.
Try loosening the coolant tank cap so it won't build up pressure and run it until warm, shut it off and see what happens.
Hope this helps

Yup, your pump is shot. Kinda what I thought would be the issue. At least you know now. If it is possible for you to find a Junkyard tank in better condition cheap, I'd HIGHLY recommend it or your gas tank reading will never be right. Probably what killed the first pump. Gauge said 1/4 on E and people kept running the tank dry which ran the pump dry which kills them.zBusterCB87 wrote:Thanks for the replies!

Your PSI should be as stated above by Jon (3400Modified).
It's all good man.3X00-Modified wrote:.............

It's his fuel pump.jskiguy wrote:Are you losing coolant?

The fuel in the tank COOLS the pump yes, but does NOT prevent it from getting warm, only from getting too hot (hopefully) and generally only does that fairly effectively if the car is KEPT at 1/2 a tank or better at all times so the pump is fully submerged.DTMAce wrote:Not to mention fuel in the tank keeps the pump cool. Yeah I don't buy it either, but weird things happen all the time.. LOL I should know!

My apologies...
When I listed tested working in the original post I put the fuel pump because when I turn the key it came on, and it ran when I start colder manage to start...
But I neglected to say that I did not know my fuel pressure...
I did loosen the coolant cap at one point but I couldn't tell if it was helping or not...fail
I have an 88 beretta that rusted so bad it's not safe to drive anymore... It has a new tank and fuel pump put new about 4 years ago... I'll just use it's parts...
What I did to drain its full tank of gas was a battery and hose using the pump inside it into another car...
The beretta I got to fix also has a full tank of gas...
I can do the same but where do you think I should open the fuel line to attach a hose?
I might get a siphon...idk yet...lol
------------------
I hope this is the final fix on this car, it was bought as a fixed salvage car a few years ago and things have always been a mystery with this car...lol
The roof still has a small crack from it's front end collision from whoever wrecked it then fixed it...
I'll eventually reply if this fixed or not it to complete the thread (if others need it)...
Thank you all for helping, even though I was a bit difficult!
PS: sorry, I did not realize there was a repair section, that's why I picked general, moving the thread is up to y'all, whatever you choose I do not mind...

88 tank and pump will not work in the 96. Its totally different.
94 and 95 used to have a pump test line to turn the pump on and empty the tank, but 96's dont have that same wire, so I'm not sure how to easily engage the pump to empty the tank.

fail, I just realized the tanks were different and was going to edit before someone read it and posted...lol3X00-Modified wrote:88 tank and pump will not work in the 96. Its totally different.

But I did not think the pumps were different...
You would think it being a Beretta, with a very similar gas tank, but different shape, and same fuel pressure, that it would take the same pump...fail

To run the pump, I just disconnect the relay and used a couple jumper wires to car body ground and fuel pump positive off the connector...
I'll see if I can still do that with the 96... I got the shop manual so i can look up the wiring and stuff, should be easy...

Yeah that will work to power it.
As far as the pump, the motor changed so they upgraded that with it. And it's not interchangeable at all.
