$500 for a q4 motor, trans, axles and cables a rip off??

so today im driving along a highway and i notice a small pile of cars in the woods behind a small dealership, they appeared to be junk cars so i stopped and asked out of curiousity if he had any beretta's, he has 3, but only 1 of them was a gtz, it was smashed hard in the front end, hard enought to buckled the roof, destroy the door and push the engine and trans almost into the firewall... i can tell by the inspection and registration stickers its been there for 10 plus years, the interior was mint, but got destroyed due to water damage and lack of care... however, the plus side is that everything is there, the motor, shift cables, axles, transmission, ect, he said he wants $500 and thats with me taking the time to pull it all out, the engine is covered in about 5 inches of dirt and dust and im weary on it, id love to have it all as spares, but who knows if its any good anymore.. and i think $500 for it all with me pulling it is a bit pricy considering at a local you pull it yard i could score all this for about $200. im just wondering what you guys think??

smashed hard in the front end? i think that says it right there lol. If it wasn't hit then I'd say maybe thats a ok price to pull everything out since it is a Q4 5-speed. good for a swap or something

thats my thought, who knows what damage was done to the engine from the hit, impact, and being slammed into... plus sitting for ten plus years didnt help it much...

Ten years sitting? Motor would beed a rebuild. What year is it? I doubt you could get a 92 quad and 92 trans for 200 dollars.

If its a 93 trans would be a good buy, head would be junk. 91 and the trans would still be a good buy but less so. Cables deff a good find. Id pull everything and say I only got 400.

he is going to want the money before i pull it, and im not sure if the engine block is any good, its a 90 and the interior is trashed... $400 dont seem like a bad price, if it was a 92, id of been all over it... even though i already have 2 extra quads and 2 extra 3.94fdr trans... hehe

Like chad said, its not the impact im worried about its the 10 years of sitting that could do some real damage

No way in hell I'd pay that. And if you do, DON'T pay him BEFORE you pull it. That alone tells me he knows something is fucked up. Or he wouldn't care if you paid him after.

$500 for the whole car would be more like it. $250 for drivetrain if you pull it, at most.
