New Serpentine Belt, Need Help With Sizing
New Serpentine Belt, Need Help With Sizing
Beretta Bros,
My serp belt is slowly tearing itself in half because of what I believe is a wobbly alternator pulley. I need help sizing the new belt.
I have the FFP UDP on the car which I know drops the belt size by one inch from factory. However, I also have a smaller alternator pulley as well. I'm not sure of the alternator pulley size exactly, but I know it is only a tad smaller than the factory pulley.
Any thoughts on my new belt size? Perhaps 1.5 inches smaller than stock?

Take it to a parts store...they have a tool that will tell them the length of the belt and get you the same length belt you have.

I don't think 1.5 is an option, you may only be able to get 1" and 2" shorter.

I would think that 1" shorter would be sufficient. The alternator pulley isn't THAT much smaller, I think the difference would be made in the tensioner.

I know that I can easily walk into a parts store with the belt and say give me another one, but I guess I was looking to make sure that I have the right size belt currently. It is the belt from the UDP change (1" shorter). I don't need an adjustment for the smaller alt pulley? It really isn't that much smaller than stock.

As long as your tensioner sat in a close to middle position at idle with the old belt on, then you're fine to get the same size again.
