Clutch squawk

Post by woody90gtz »

The last month or so I've been getting a squawk the first time I engage the clutch after the car sits. At first it was just overnight once in a while, and now it will usually do it in the morning, at lunch, heading home...pretty much any time the car sits a few hours. And VERY rarely it will do it twice within the first minute or two of driving and then be fine.

I haven't figured out what it is yet. It's only when starting off from a stop and I've never heard anything like it before. This is my first 6-puck clutch though. Barry & Robert, have you experienced this at all? It doesn't sound normal to me, but maybe it is normal for a 6-puck disc.

Not related, but I got a "squak" sound from my subie before when it was damp out, sounded similar to a tire spinning just every so sligtly and I figured my clutch was due, since replacing the clutch I've never heard the noise... so I would have to say its not "normal" or at least it's not normal on a stock type disc, I'm not so sure about a 6 puck, but at the same time I still can't imagine it to be normal.

That's kind of what I was thinking...it doesn't sound normal to me. But, with this 6-puck there is slight vibration when you engage it from a stop. And the squawk sounds like it is caused by some kind of vibration.

I got this once or twice when the car has been sitting for a few days and I start it up in the rain. Nothing to worry about.

I really like my clutch. After a few days of not beating on it it glazes over and gets pretty smooth. As soon as you beat it a few times its back to chattering like a bitch in reverse and chirping third.

Mine is pretty smooth for casual driving too. There's only a real slight vibration on engagement in 1 or R and it does grab hard when you beat on it. With that new braided slave line it's really jerky when you're bangin gears, where the stg 2 and stock slave line were much smoother...so you know it's grabbing harder.

Where did you get the braided line? I bought 2 fittings and stainless for my s10 and was thinking about doing the same for the beretta. heres the site and the fittings I bought my truck, so I'd say about $100 to upgrade my truck. I did it for serviceability reasons but its still a upgrade lol.

I got an Earl's -3AN brake host from Summit. They also had a pair of Russel pinlock to -3 fittings for cheap.

Just did the truck too.
