short shifter

Post by Alxsmt »

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevy-Beretta-C ... 2c5f0d5a75

designed and built by me. This is the only shifter made with threads for a shift knob.

if you want a short shifter you have 4 options, spend $200 at JBP for a modifeid stock shifter, modify a stock shifter, design and build your own (trust me its not a walk in the park as simple as it looks), or buy one from me.

Where are the specs of your shifter compared to stock?
Shift Throw = ?
Select Throw = ?
Slop In Gate = ?

I have OE specs if you don't, and I also have the specs of my factory modified shifter.

Im not sure what other GM cars had for a thread pitch. I believe the cars you listed dont have a screw on style knob but I could be wrong. Mine is the same as what they use subaru, my geo also has the same size.

the throw is 50% shorter. stock was 4" from neutral to 3rd, mine is 2"

as far as select Im not sure, I can measure it next weekend. I would imagine 50% shorter.

explain what you mean by slop

The vehicles that daguse5853z listed all have screw on shift knobs.

You gave me one measurement that is obviously wrong, you said, (the throw is 50% shorter. stock was 4" from neutral to 3rd, mine is 2") that makes no sense unless you meant from 3rd to fourth?

By "slop in gate" I mean side to side motion of the shifter arm when in gear.

Here are the specs on mine (Stock VS Modified)

Shift throw is measured 1st to 2nd.
Select Throw is measured side to side in neutral.
Slop is gate is side to side movement measured while in gear.

Stock shifter dimensions...
Shift Throw = 4-1/2"
Select Throw = 3-1/2"
Slop In Gate = 1"

Short Throw Shifter dimensions... (modified stock shifter assembly, not just the shift arm)
Shift Throw = 3" Total Travel 33% Reduction
Select Throw = 2" Total Travel 43% Reduction
Slop In Gate = 3/8" Side-to-Side. 62% Reduction

You should really take pictures of yours vs stock with measurements in the pictures for verification, (unless you don't want to actually sell any)...

im 100% sure neutral to 3rd gear (or any gear) is ~4" stock. mine is 2" for a fact. 4" from 3rd to 4th is short, these cars are like old trucks when it comes to shift throws.

Where are you measuring this at? Because you're saying that first to third for example would be an 8 inch throw stock! Why are you measuring from neutral to third for throw? Throw measurement involves 2 gears! This is silly...... :runsies:

top of the shifter arm. I am saying first to 2nd, 3rd to 4th, and 5th to reverse is ~8" stock. its an easier measurement to get neutral to 3rd.

I see, your shifter is essentially a cut down shortened arm, not a real short shifter... My specs are also measured from the top of the shifter arm and were from a Beretta shifter. Look at the specs I posted for stock, it is not 8'' stock, it's 4.5'' stock total from 1st to 2nd, 3rd to 4th, 5th to reverse, whatever.

In my specs above:
Shift throw is measured 1st to 2nd at the top of the shifter arm.
Select Throw is measured side to side in neutral at the top of the shifter arm.
Slop is gate is side to side movement measured while in gear at the top of the shifter arm.

yep it is just a shifter arm for sale. bottom is extended as much as it can be with out modifying the whole shifter assembly (cables will hit eachother if its longer)

why would you measure 1st to 3rd.

Could someone else please take the stock measurement? I would get it on video but my beretta is an hour away. I really dont know where you came up with your measurements.

I built this for my car to help save the shifter cables, I have a pile of bad cables but these still work. Instead of modifying a stock shifter I thought I would build one thinking hey, maybe someone else who doesnt have time, tools, or knowledge might be interisted in one. For that person I Have a product.

There isnt a person on here that would pay for a modifed stock/custom assembly If you add up time and meterials. This is the best bang for your buck. it does the job.

It doesn't look like your bottom is extended at all over stock...

Shift throw refers directly to actual physical travel of the shifter stick - thus affecting the time it takes to shift from one gear to another, not from neutral to a gear...

Sorry, the 1st to third thing was a typo, (it's been a long day, sorry)...

I have photos of all my measurements, but they are pictures taken after modification...

My stock shifter cost $50 shipped to be modified, the only materials were little extension pieces of flat steel to the shifter arm and shifter assembly, and I provided a junkyard core that was $5...

thanks you scd88ga for backing me up on that one! I'm not a novice, I was just inquiring on the thread pitch. I looked at the thread and the ebay post for the shifter and $100+ is a bit steep for me (expecially since I weld pretty well :p ) either or you cant jump someone for trying to make money. Honestly if you take anything to anyone and have it welded/modded/fabbed expect to pay at least $50 if you can prove you know your stuff an +-$100 if you dont. Alwsmt has a good looking product and I'm happy he found a buyer, it just wasnt this guy ;)

thats not a "cobra" shifter I have in my Z....ignore my sexy and smart bitch and focus on the shifter....its the shortest you can get from GM and its threaded. dont make me put out the archived pics to prove its the shortests either bc I'm getting tired of proving myself ;)
