Re: GTU Decals on Ebay.
Someone buy that and copy it... we need exact replicas since these are getting harder to find. Same deal with Indy stuff... someone needs to copy that to the T so we have something to get it made if someone needs it.
Anyone who does this art we can very easily store it on the webserver so if you wanted to bring it to a decal shop they could make them up for you.

This was done. The duplicates from vinyl look like poop compared to the original.
And a decal was destroyed in the process.

Are the GTU decals screenprinted like the Indy decals?

Well that's the problem; I wouldn't get a screen printed decal redone by diecutting it.

Re: GTU Decals on Ebay.
Trouble is finding someone to do it without being pointing to a cheesy vinyl cutting product. The other option is buying in bulk but these are licensed products.heavywoody wrote:Well that's the problem; I wouldn't get a screen printed decal redone by diecutting it.
Someone could make the IMSA window decal too. Someone could invest the time and money into getting all GTU decals made. Then some dikhead would come along and say that was expensive and make them out of vinyl and say they are the same thing.
We already went through this with another member who basically sent back a vinyl cut product and destroyed the original.
Jonathon, do you have someone that could make exact duplicates?
Re: GTU Decals on Ebay.
The other problem is there is red in this....red fades if not printed correctly. Look at what GM did on the 94-96 dark lower filler panel....BERETTA was painted red on and still fades to pink within months.
Has anyone duplicated the OEM GTZ one correctly? I bought a 1990 GTZ one for $30 about 8 years ago from GM.

Re: GTU Decals on Ebay.
The only way I could have it done (by the same guy who did the windshield banners) is by plotter cut vinyl... Which honestly probably wouldn't be that bad. May also hold up much better than printed vinyl.
If someone could get me artwork of the decal then it could be tested, but I'm not going to take a factory decal in to get destroyed to make something. I would rather start with something drawn.
What the hell is screen printed about that decal is it just a huge clear sticker with black and red lettering? or is it the color of the car? If so then why not just have the letters cut out and your backdrop is the car paint? I honestly can't see why that wouldn't come out good.
But if that is the case I also do have someone who does decal printing I could ask. They make dirt bike vinyl and such for advertising.

The sides are GTU cut in gray vinyl and the 2.8 multi port injection under it is printed in red on clear vinyl. The rear is all printed on clear vinyl. I have a full set but I'm not about to have them destroyed.

Re: GTU Decals on Ebay.
But if you can get them scanned, we can use that. Even if they are too big to scan all at once, scan them in sections and get them to me, I can easily get the stitched and converted over in PS to be something any vinyl plotter can work with, whether it be printing or cutting.
If you have the ability, and the time, see if you can get scans of the decals. If they don't fit on the scanner bed as one piece, then do it as two files. Make sure you set the quality of the scanner to its maximum (if its a basic setup) or at least 600-800 DPI. Wouldn't hurt to throw a ruler in beside it either, so we have an exact point of reference for scale. Be sure that the scanner glass is good and clean, so there are no marks or dirt that can leave us with imperfections in the scan.
I can easily stitch it, and make it one item, that then can be worked with.
OH.
And to be absolutely sure we are able to find the image details, put some gaudy bright green paper behind it for the scan, or something. I don't want white behind it, if there is white in the decal. Needs to be a color that isn't in the decal.
Now that I think about it though, this is probably already mounted on paper isn't it? Not already transparent? If that's the case, then never mind about putting paper behind it, just scan it as is.

Re: GTU Decals on Ebay.
That's not the problem. Unfortunately, they have that sticker backing on them for applying. I'm not sure if that makes much sense how I put it, but basically I'd have to apply them to something to get a clear image. Does that make sense? Believe me, I'm all for getting these made cheaper than the $240 I ended up paying for them but with the price I paid I will NOT ruin these.
I'll try to get scans with the backing of what I have to try to clarify what I mean.

Re: GTU Decals on Ebay.
Oh yeah. That's right, they are reversed on the backing. Damn.
Only way it can be done would be to mount them on glass or something. And that would ruin them as well. Well fudge!

Re: GTU Decals on Ebay.
Taking care, I'm sure you could get the covering adhesive off without removing them from the paper.
but whatever, since ONE person destroyed a set trying to get a copy I guess thats the norm of what would happen now. I fold.
