thanks for all the info guys really helped, i think ima go back to the junk yard and get the entire wiring harness for the car that the 3800sc came out of, even the dash cluster and obd2 conector, i think all i would need to do is just rewire the ignition then to make the vats system work. gonna be lots of work but will be fun and worth it thanks guys i'll keep yall posted.

I swapped the Vats system into my 88 Grand Am, it was a pain, I'd recommend eliminating it, (you can find instructions online.) I actually bored out my ignition tumbler housing to fit the larger Bonneville tumbler with the Vats wire and used the stock GM key with the resistance chip in it. You could also find the set resistance of that particular cars vats unit and build an in-line resistor pack and use your original ignition. I kept the factory cluster in my 88 grand am and spliced the wiring harnesses to make everything work.
