Want some new struts? What brand springs to buy? How much camber to run? What brake pads? What's the best setup for your situation....

how to recognize problems visually

Post by themadness »

just wondering if there were any tips on recognize possible front end suspension issues by visually inspecting. what are the most common things to look for in regards to aged cv joints, axles, shocks, etc. i rotated my tires the other day and thought it would be cool to pick up on things just by looking at the components. i'm sure there are some of you who can pull a tire and instantly point out things that need attention.

just wondering

Bushings being rotted, mising, or blown out. Grease leaking from cv boots. Shocks/struts leaking oil. Brakes are visual inspection.

Just look for broken stuff

Another way to check some steering and suspension parts is to jack up the wheel and grab it at 3 and 9 o'clock and and try to move it back and forth. Then do the same at 12 and 6. This can help determine if a ball joint or tie rod end needs replacing. Also a wheel hub sometimes.
