Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
I have seen these before, but can't recall exactly what the deal was. Is this trans a 3.94 and could I swap my v6 bellhousing on it and use the 88-91 mounts?

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
Nevermind I googled the tag. I can get all of the useable stuff from this trans in a rebuild kit for cheaper.
Here's a quote from Rodney on 60*v6.
Here's a quote from Rodney on 60*v6.
The gearing sucks in these transmissions, thats why he cant sell them. There has been other guys selling them as well, I believe there was like 70 of them or something crazy like that. There was a guy selling them on craigslist for $250 shipped anywhere in the us.
They have 3.77, 2.19, 1.38, .94, .72 gears with 3.94 fdr. Pretty useless, they were used in some heavy euro van that had a quad 4 in it. They were a good deal at $250, as the synchros, bearings, etc can all be used to rebuild your own transmission.

I could give you the number of the yard i got my cables from.
They had a 89 with a 5spd 90xxx miles. When i had my new trans apart the magnet had metal all over thats why i changed my sycros.I know that my spare is pefect and would last awhile.
But im not sure i would sell it.lol

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
Been looking at F40's, but that would be a lot of money I don't need to spend and time I don't really have. Beretta 6spd has a nice ring to it though.
I've got to get into mine and see exactly what I need.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
If I did anything other than a 282, it would be an F40. I already have expensive axles, LSD & clutch and the mounts, shifter, cables etc for the 282. All of that would need to be replaced/modified to go F40.
A guy on v6z24 did it, but it looks like a hack job. I'd definitely change the mount setup and just have DSS modify my axles.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
Car is back in the garage and I'm going to start the teardown soon. First thing I'm pulling is the wideband to put it in the truck! haha
Researching the F40 swap it will be about $3500, so unless my clutch looks bad and I can get a buyer for the diff & axles, etc. it is going to stay a 282 car.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
that's a weird 'strap' around the f40 tranny in the guys pics. doesnt look bad though... and it's a start, to see where weak parts will be, then improve from there
4th one's a charm, 5th one is, beginnning to sound like this is an addiction...

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
So...Tiffany found an F40 G6 in the want ad locally, only about 20 miles away. Black w/ black leather. So we're going to take a look at it and test drive. She's been looking to replace the Subaru, and I want to shift an F40 to see how it feels.
