My next car day will be Friday. Hope to get some pictures of Brett's car and then swap over my "winter wheels" to Betty. It will be nice to not be riding on low profile tires for a bit lol.

i washed it yesterday! for the second time since i got it in like june or something... (daily driven since late august). i clad bar waxed 3/4s of it and carnuba waxed the front end anyways. looks pretty decent! (still have bunch of small rock chips, and a slightly scratched rectangular area on the drivers side edge of the hood for some reason by the previous owner... a lot less noticeable) forgot to rain x the windshield! damn it!picks up tomorrow maybe... finished in the dark

Lets see, drove the Z back to home. On the way, activated the insurance and did the title and plates for the 95 base. Its officially mine now... lol

Got home, put plates on, drove out and filled the tank, checked things out a bit more, etc... Seems to be pretty solid. Trans shifts and works great, engine is strong in it! Have to keep a very close eye though on coolant levels and oil, though no issues yet....

Nothing.

My car has been sitting there in the same spot for over a week. She needs engine mounts and of course on the day I was going to do them, it dropped to 40* here in Colorado. Plus, I got in the car the other day to grab something only to find out that the battery is dead. WTF? She needs love...

started my roll on rustoleum project yesterday. thats right.....i'm trying ANOTHER method. same paint different technique. spraying was just too inconsistent. the roll on method is much easier to control where the paint goes. rain rain rain for the next couple of days.

I changed out my ICM with one of the other 6 I have sitting here because mine was starting take a poo on the way to Nitrofest. I then went for a drive to ship some parts and buy some oil and the new ICM is working great! :D

Drove it to the doc, 20 miles each way. I really should throw new tires on the car, 56-65 it shakes a little.

Madness!! You are using the roller?? Be prepared for a lot of sanding if you want it to look good! Me experiences with the roller are that it lays down too much paint, which is why I used a foam brush.
Where did you hear about the Rusto project? Me??

originally saw your instructable and read a bunch everywhere else. the first day using it couldnt have been better. nice and smooth!

today...........

serious pain in the ass. no matter how much i thin the paint it still goes on thick. i knew i would be sanding alot so i am a little prepared. the mixing is the annoying part. i started at 60-40, then went 50-50 and it is still thick any thinner and it runs and doesnt settle well.

You should do a rustolium paint job, just thin the paint enough to use in a spray gun... It's the media your using to apply, its trying to put down too much regardless of the mixture of the paint.

thats what i did the first go round. i had never done it before but it came out ok. after a week or so though the paint settled and lost all of the minimal gloss it had. while it was VERY bright it just didnt look like i wanted. i then switched to rattle cans. i did the front fender and almost got wood at how great it looked straight from the can but i couldnt replicate it anywhere on the car. i switched to the roller and got good results the first day but today was a HUGE let down. i started sanding the panels i didnt paint on which was pretty much everywhere but the trunk lid and fender. what sanding i got done is smooth and may look ok if i buff or polish it. when i pick up new sanding blocks and high grit paper the ones i started today will go quick i think. as for the panels i tried to paint today, i may be sanding all the way back down and starting over. it rained yesterday and monday so its a little muggy. the paint started wrinkling and bubbling as soon as it started drying. the thinning was exactly the same as the day i got good results :unknown:

any recommendations on buffing and polishing? the test spots i did were decent but had a bit of a haze. did them by hand...........

Drove the base about 75 miles today. Running pretty good. Have to fix a few things, but nothing major.

Use a good buffer and buff them with the proper pads and compounds. By hand on paint will not produce a good result, especially if your starting with something that was not smooth to begin with... you'll be there all day.

You need to really work the paint to make it shine and thats probably why the sprayed stuff didn't... If you sprayed it on thick enough you could go back and do a good wet sand job and the buff to a shine since it is still single stage paint and your not worrying about burning through a clear coat.
