'96 Z34 Monte Carlo. Pics are up!
So, I took a '96 Z34 Monte Carlo on trade today for part of a customers labor on their bill. Runs great. I've done some work to this car over a year so I already knew it's disposition. It has the 3.4L TDC (Twin Dual Cam) engine, and it is POWERFUL and strong. Very healthy. Body is pretty decent overall. Glass is good. Interior is dirty but nothing a good cleaning won't fix. Transmission has an O/D issue I'll be posting in Diagnostic Help about and hoping Jon pipes up as I trust his knowledge of the 4t60-e almost implicitly .
Today , I got the car and did the following:
1. Transmission fluid and filter change. Damn, it was ready for one too! Told the customer it was time a few months back. They hadn't been driving it though, so didn't want to just yet.
2. Air filter.
3. Located the vacuum leak. It's one of the upper plenum intake gaskets.
I've just done , a few months back, new Taylor wires and good spark plugs on it while the customer still owned it, so I'm good there.
Tomorrow is:
1. Fresh oil change. Oil looks good yet, but now that I own it, it's gonna get a fresh one just cause...
2. New Fuel Filter. Just cause again.
3. New intake gasket, unless I have to order it. Then it will wait until I can get it in.
4. Full detail.
Other than that it's pretty well good to go. It runs great , lots of power, and after a good bath should look like a whole new car. These people are slobs, but they kept up pretty well on maintenance. How do you know, you ask? Because I was their mechanic and did all the work.
I took a few pics tonight , but it had gotten dark and they turned out like ass. So, pics tomorrow. I'll be sure to try to remember before and after cleanup pics.

Re: '96 Z34 Monte Carlo.
Got the oil change , fuel filter and outer detail done today. I also fixed a small power steering leak. Return line needed a new clamp. Now all leaks are stopped. Also did a full detail on the exterior. Still need to vacuum and wipe down the interior and engine bay, but tomorrow I think for that. Gasket should be in tomorrow.
Decided I'm gonna just flip this one. Sell it on CL for a good price to get a quick sale. Make someone a good DD or winter beater.

Not sure on the color name. It's the same as my Achieva S that the woman DD's. I call it "smoke blue".
It's for sale if anyone wants it. Just posted the CL ad.

Gonna do the intake gasket tomorrow and the shifter cable adjustment and call it good enough. Of course I'll still vacuum it and detail the interior and engine bay.

I think so too. That and the steelie in place of the chrome rim.
Got the adapter to UIM gasket in. Fixed things up quite nicely, but there's still a few very minor things to chase down if I keep it. Otherwise it's new owner can handle it I'm sure. Nothing majorly wrong with this car. Just alot of miles and she needed some things, most of which I've done in the last 48 hours.

Haha, actually very tempting, lol! Did you know the LQ1 is just a 3.1L block with monster heads slapped on? Same bore, slightly different stroke. I actually caught myself thinking yesterday "I bet I could make this bolt into an L body".
Great minds. This thing is every bit the monster I remembered these motors being in an AUTO. I can only imagine in a stick!
Btw, for anyone wondering:
3.4L TDC also known as the LQ1
215 HP
220 Ft.Lbs. Torque
Runs the 1/4 mile in an average of 15.4 bone stock.
Not bad for a 3400 lb curb weight car, huh?

I test drove a Lumina Z34 5spd years and years ago. No doubt it was a beast compared to my quad GTZ! haha

You should hear the names the call the LQ1 guys on 60*v6... lol
Good luck replacing the alternator thats ALL I have to say
I had to help someone do a timing belt on one and he didn't listen to me and wait for me to finish helping him check everything and ensure the belt was on right and it ended up costing him $550 to have someone else correct it after. Those are not fun motors to work on.

Re: '96 Z34 Monte Carlo. Pics are up!
I like that generation of Monte Carlos quite a bit. Good looking cars, and they are pretty darn nice too. We've got a 99 Z34 with the 3800 in it, over 100,000 on it now and the car still drives like it's new. I've also got a 98 Lumina LTZ, 4 door Monte pretty much, for daily driving and work usage.
Great cars. Roomy, nice ride, powerful. Parts are available and relatively cheap. Ya pretty much can't go wrong.
That's a great color on that one, actually pretty rare too.

Looks pretty nice, is something missing from the grill? the grill area looks..empty to me.
Also, is that one of those carpet dash covers? how do they look in person? I'm not sure if I wanna get one of the plastic dash covers that are molded to match the car and look stock, or just save money and get a carpet one.
Also, those are some funky mounted strut braces haha
