Cautionary Tale - Quad Fuel Supply Line

Here’s a cautionary tale for all of you Quad owners. I was lucky, make certain you are as well. I changed the oil in the GTZ last weekend. I was about to close the hood when something on the fuel feed supply line caught my attention. Seems that in the rubber section of the supply line, right above the exhaust manifold, has failed internally. The outer casing finally gave under the pressure and had a pin hole in it. Fuel was slowly dripping out. It must have happened some days/weeks earlier because you could see the stain on the exhaust manifold heat shield. Yeah, that could’ve been a ton of fun!

I was able to grab a new one from RA. In fact I was able to get a GM OE line. It was on wholesaler closeout. When I got mine there were 2 left. Now there’s one. I can’t speak for other years, but if you’ve got a 92 Quad you might consider grabbing the last one left. And….. the race is one. Who will get it?

So, word to the wise. Check the integrity of your fuel line. I was lucky. Make certain you are as well. A few more days and there might have been 1 less GTZ in the world.

I'd also check the evaporation canister rubber lines once in a while. I save one local GTZ burn, started above the canister. Just fumes leaking out should not be enough to start fires tho.

Except fumes are highly volatile. More so then the liquid form of the fuel.

Exactly. That's what I was thinking. I'd worry more about fumes than liquid. But liquid fuel spilling onto the exhaust mani is not cool either. Good catch! Saved yourself from a car fire VERY likely. That's how a lot of GP's around 2000 went down. Engine fires.
