Re: For Sale Rules Not approved.
Let's start a poll and find out what the majority want's. Mandatory pic's or not. That way no one can cry foul as it was not just an arbitrary decision.
Re: For Sale Rules Not approved.
I sell hundreds of items a month and ship world wide. Shipping information is required most of the time for a buyer to make a decision and is summed up on a item checkout.SuzukiGhostRider wrote:Honestly Erich, I'll give it to you straight. You're the ONE GUY on this site who's NOTORIOUS for never posting pics and dragging your feet about it when asked for them. I'm not surprised you're the ONLY outspoken activist against this type of policy. Trying to say that weights, measurements, etc will be asked for next is ridiculous. That is something the buyer and seller can work out when it comes time to ship if need be. I think you're blowing the mandatory pics idea WAY out of proportion because you're the one seller who never seems to want to post pics.
Am I the ONLY one against mandatory photography?

How about a BUY function? It would eliminate fuss over dibs and show item sold?

And I knew this would happen.
How about we just DELETE the for sale section and you can use your e-commerce sites that don't require photos.

I think we're all pretty well agreed here Jon, with the exception of Erich. I think he's just having fun with this to tell the truth.
Ron's assessment is a pretty good one. I would think required pics or not would be up to the mods in the end , just as the rules themselves. I think we all just want a reasonable representation of what is acceptable.

Re: For Sale Rules Not approved.
Its very simple. As a participant of this forum I do not wish to exclude classified postings where people do not put images of the items for sale. If I want to purchase something without a photo that is my choice. If you cannot purchase your goods without one that is your choice. Mandatory?
Then you need to clarify. If i am selling the transmission out of my car for example. Is it ok to post a photo of my car or must i take the transmission out and photo it.
Another situation. Things like PRE-orders or group buys.

Re: For Sale Rules Not approved.
Gonna agree with Erich on this one. Providing pictures should be a recommendation, rather than a requirement. If you don't post pictures and it hurts your potential sale, so be it.
I agree with requiring adequate information for the buyers, however.

Re: For Sale Rules Not approved.
How about making it required for selling a car, and optional but highly recommended for selling parts? Would that make it better?

Re: For Sale Rules Not approved.
there is a lot of potential here for updating forum classifieds.
Including:
1.Upgrading the photo up-loader tools. Promoting photo's
2. Promoting save trading with seller history
3. Sellers using tools like Google Checkout and Paypal and promoting this in their sale date.
4. Stating shipping methods...this might be as important as location.
5. Establish a sale button that a buyer can do an instant purchase and payment.
Ads from people without a proven sale history in their basic format should be allowed. I love it when new people come up with their treasures.
Use the above mentioned 1-5 for the most safety to the buyer. A seller with a proven track record with instant sales and things like Google Checkout and or Paypal with PHOTO's will obviously be the most secure and people like SGR and Rodville will feel safe.

This could work.DTMAce wrote:How about making it required for selling a car, and optional but highly recommended for selling parts? Would that make it better?
Could the site make money off this? And work out deals with Carfax or something.
Since automobiles are higher priced items with lots of loopholes like vins registration..could Beretta.net charge a small fee and actually promote the sale of a car. Would be a small charge. Ebay gets a lot of money for this service...almost too much.

Re: For Sale Rules Not approved.
Erich, honestly, why are you being a horse's ass about this? Google checkout, PP, Carfax... Jesus christ, get real. You're going off on all these extended tangents when the only real debate appears to be that YOU , and only YOU do not want to post pics. Fine, then don't sell your item here if pics end up being required.
Silly questions like your transmission question above are fruitless and you know it. This type of bullshit outta you is PRECISELY why I refuse to do business with you and just plain IGNORE you 99% of the time.
Don't single me and Rod out for wanting pictures. MOST people want to see a picture of the ACTUAL ITEM for sale. MOST people do NOT want to buy an item sight unseen or pic unseen. If you have great luck selling your stuff with no pics on your "e-commerce site" great, continue selling THERE.

Re: For Sale Rules Not approved.
I think you are going WAY overboard there Erich.
We don't need to complicate this, and from what I'm reading in your posts, you sound as if you want to complicate the thing. Lets stick to keeping this simple please. All that Jon was trying to do, is to make the sale threads a bit more uniform, and easier to use. He was NOT trying to turn this site into a commerce site. If you guys want all those features, use Ebay or something. This is just for some friendly selling between ourselves of stuff that we all keep needing or wanting for our cars. I would rather not have a sale section then have things that you are suggesting. I would rather donate money to the site directly. May actually do that later this month.
As for the upload thing. I have tried using the upload tool. Only got it to work for me one time, and never again. But I have my own site, so I just host the images myself, use the IMG tags and keep the sizes between 800 to 1024 in width. That works for me.
I can see why Jon is getting frustrated with this. Maybe we should have just left it well enough alone. I don't know. But I do know that you are being way outside the box Erich, sorry to say. Not trying to make you angry, but no one else has been suggesting these things, and frankly I don't see the need to go that far.

Re: For Sale Rules Not approved.
I can see that SGR is displeased with my input into this.
Keeping it simple is a good idea. Making unnecessary rules is not keeping things simple. It looks like there is a push to organize sales a bit more on this site. Some of us have sold over a decade on this forum and have experience of what works.
I do not wish to exclude anyone who does not want to post photo's.

Re: For Sale Rules Not approved.
IMO the photo is part of the negotiations. If it should be required, make it a requirement for the higher dollar item and actual cars for sale. The seller is only hurting him/herself if they are not posting pics. I have to agree with the uploader...more times than not it will say that i'm not allowed to post attachments i have been a member of the board long enough to post pics. In that regard, attaching image codes from photobucket or any other outside hosting site should be sufficient.
