Re: Beretta 96 Updates
Nice looking beretta!
1: By screen do you mean the GPS?
2: ABS light is brought on by any of the following:
Bad sensor in one of the wheels.
Bad ABS computer.
Bad ABS modulator.
Issues with the exterior lighting in some cases. (such as missing a bulb, bad wiring to a bulb or using LED bulbs with/without electronic flashers and have no load resistors to simulate bulb load. Not all cars react the same to LED installs)
The lights causing the ABS are most prevalent if you don't get an ABS then you turn on your lights or hit the brakes and then the ABS lights up.
ABS does a diagnostic when you start the vehicle.
Do this as a test. Do not press the brake, but start the vehicle. Just wait, don't do anything else. Does the ABS light up right away? If so, this means the ABS system has detected an immediate fault. If not, then press the brake. Does it light up? If so, then there is an issue with the brake lighting possibly, or an actual brake problem. This may be accompanied by the word BRAKE lighting up too. If it does not light up at this point, turn on your lights all the way. If you get the ABS here, then it very well may be a lighting problem. If not, turn the lights off, then turn on your hazard's. Often this will trip the ABS too. (it does on mine, but I know its because the load resistors are not quite heavy enough)
Now, if at this point you have tried these things and nothing, then trying moving the vehicle forward or reverse for a short distance. You should hear the ABS system power test (makes a clicking noise). If a sensor failure is detected at this point, the ABS will light during the test. This means that it had a fault during movement of the wheels, and that one or more sensors is not operating correctly. You can always try cleaning them, and the front ones are the only ones that may need it. They have a ring gear on the axle just behind the wheel bearing. The rear's are mounted internally on the wheel bearing and as such usually way less prone to fail. With the front ones, you may need to blow the gear off, and the sensor, sometimes metal collects on them, as well as brake dust, etc. Also reseat the wire on them, making sure the connections are clean, the wiring is not torn or damaged (its located along the lower control arm, so subject to dirt, rocks, etc)
As for 3:
You need the skirt brackets, they have rivets that hold them to the car, so you have to find a donor car, drill out the rivets, then go to your car, (using measurements taken from the donor hopefully) and install the same way by drilling holes in the body and pop-riveting them back on. There are 4 pieces for each side, one for the door, one for below the door, one for the rear quarter behind the door and a short piece for the front fender bottom.
Also you will have to remove the base trim moldings as part of this procedure. And you will have to put in several screws along the bottom into the rocker panel. Personally, it looks very nice without the Z04 side skirts. At least this is what I'm assuming you are using for skirts. If they are GTU skirts, I have no idea how those would go. (GTU skirts are very obviously rounded, whereas the Z04 skirts came only on GTZ and Z26 beretta's.
Good luck!
