Re: Roberts 89GT Engine build.
If you think simply clearancing the bottom of the bracket will solve my issue then I will attempt that on Sat, but as is it will not fit with no issues.

Re: Roberts 89GT Engine build.
The car in the photo belongs to a member of my car club (scott0999 on various forums) I know he works 2nd shift, so I will send him a message or see if he pops up on facebook tonight. I'll direct him to this thread and see what input he has on this matter.3X00-Modified wrote: That picture you keep posting Brett, were you there when that engine combo was put together or removed? do you know what was done to that bracket? it could have been tweaked to fit somehow.
That's what I would do, but let's wait for Scott's input...3X00-Modified wrote:If you think simply clearancing the bottom of the bracket will solve my issue then I will attempt that on Sat, but as is it will not fit with no issues.

Weird. Never hit that issue before. Should be able to clearence it. 3.1/2.8 may have less meat there for the stamped oil pan

Re: Roberts 89GT Engine build.
OK, just talked to Scott, here's our conversation:
Scott Marohn
HEY
sorry hey
lol
Brett Mandli
yo
Scott Marohn
I read a little bit but whats the question exactly
im using the jackshaft and bracket and came on my 94 3.1, on a 2001 3400
Brett Mandli
read the last two posts and look at the pictures on page 19
Scott Marohn
k
Brett Mandli
this is also a 3400, and I sold him a 94 Z24 jack shaft and bracket
he said it's hitting the block slightly at the bottom, so it has a gap between where it bolts between the jack shaft and the block
Scott Marohn
k 1 min
Brett Mandli
You didn't have to mod the mating surface between the jack shaft bracket and the block?
Scott Marohn
no, and I dont know of anyone thats needed to do that
I see his pictures and how hes having issues, im just not sure how
Brett Mandli
Hmmmff
Scott Marohn
I could even show him the 3400 swap guide on v6z24, it makes no mention of this
Brett Mandli
must be a slight variation in the casting of the block
Scott Marohn
that would be odd, but possible I suppose?
Brett Mandli
It's the only thing I can think of... Well thanks, lol, I'll let him know what you told me!
Scott Marohn
looks like its not centered all that great either hmm
but ya idk. show him my thread, thats what im using. same part # and I didnt do any grinding on the housing at all
Brett Mandli
ok, will do
Here's the thread: http://www.v6z24.com/jbodyforum/bye-bye ... rt,75.html
That's about as much as I can do on my end Jon. If you would feel safer about it by hitting it with the grinder a little bit, then go for it. Good luck! I Know you'll figure it out!

Re: Roberts 89GT Engine build.
He's referring to your third picture where it shows the jack shaft bracket holes and the block holes. I know it's just because of the angle of the picture though. But yeah, a variation in the casting of the block is the only thing we could come up with because that fitment issue has never come up before as far as he or I have ever heard or seen. I personally know 6 people that have this same 94 Z24 jack shaft / engine bracket combo in their cars.3X00-Modified wrote:What does he mean by doesn't look centered?

Re: Roberts 89GT Engine build.
It's good enough for everyone else, and it's not the jack shafts fault. You should swap out your engine block with a more defined casting. j/k j/k Yeah, this sucks, but it's an easy fix.Robert 89gt wrote:Jon it's really not the end of the world i don't want you to worry.

Re: Roberts 89GT Engine build.
I'm going to look into this some more on saturday since it just doesn't make sense.
I'll bring it to the inlaws and get it up on the lift so I can better see whats going on.

Re: Roberts 89GT Engine build.
Oh hai!
I miss bstuff, even though I only had a beretta for a short while!
anyway scott0999 here!
yes I'm using the jackshaft and housing that came on my 94 Z24, on a 2001 3400. I didnt have to modify it at all
I noticed the part number on my housing and yours is the same. however, if you look closely at the casting, it seems to be slightly different! thats weird eh??
one thing you could do is try and bolt the housing on without the jackshaft on there. that way its not forcing it to its current location
also, I hear this is being used on an older 282? (the one that normally has the jackshaft which bolts to the trans 3 bolts) right?
I'm not 100% sure, but since its a different trans that may be causing it to come out in a slightly different location
thats all I can think of! the 3400 swap guide on v6z24 makes no mention of modification needs to the jackshaft!
have a nice day

Re: Roberts 89GT Engine build.
If I didn't know better I'd say that is a 3500 block, because that looks to be exactly how far off a jackshaft is from bolting up on a 3500. Maybe the late 3400 blocks share the same changed boss locations as a 3500? I have the stamped steel bracket and I cut it and welded in a piece of angle iron in the right spot. Its going to be really hard to get that meaty bracket that you have modified to fit properly.

woody90gtz wrote:Chill, Robert. I'm not nitpicking I'm just wondering why the detent cover wasn't replaced. The assembly manual instructions tell you to punch a hole in the detent cover to pop it out and then replace it. And I've heard that Syncromesh will eat RTV and that's why anaerobic sealer is used for the trans case halves. That RTV could leak in time.Robert 89gt wrote:There is nothing wrong with the trans in my car.Nothing got punched i was always there working on it with him.Stop knit picking everything on my car.
When i work on Getrag's I fill the cover with black RTV silicone. I wish someone made an inexpensive replacement cover. Perhaps i will look into something different. I have taken apart Getrag's sealed with RTV silicone...not good.
How did you seal your getrag's cover?

At one time i looked into this and remember L bodies actually getting a different mount. Has anyone actually compared p/n's. This should be looked into keep all facts on manual/trans swaps straight.scd88ga wrote: Robert's 89 Beretta, and a 94 Z24 use the same exact motor mount!
The Cavalier in the photo looks like it has an A on it. Is that the older 3400? What year is Roberts?

Re: Roberts 89GT Engine build.
Question how does the rear mount work on the beretta?
Get some pics.
People have used this jackshaft on a 3400 engine so ill agree with brett on this part. still hesitant to say this is a better jackshaft though we wont get into that again....
Did the car start off as a auto or manaul?
Robert im sorry it had a crack but if you look on facebook i mentiond i would have a custom bracket made for you to solve this problem correct? shipping just killed me so i wouldnt be able to refund you money without losing alot myself.. My appologies im trying to make it right though....
My neighbor has a junk 3400 block i do believe and i can check with the 94 jackshaft i have if its the same as your situation jon.

Re: Roberts 89GT Engine build.
This is why i think the old mounts are a headache and prefer modding 92-96 cars. The only mount i dislike most is the X/A and Fiero mount.
