Heat/Defrost Blower Works Intermittently

Post by kjlee2112 »

Hey guys/girls,

Car: 96 V6 Base

My heater/defrost/vent fan blower is acting weird.  Sometimes I'll turn it on and it will work fine.  Other times(usually when colder outside, don't know if that is significant or not) it won't turn on at all.  I'll turn the fan on 1,2,3,4 and go thru all the climate settings, and it doesn't turn on--then sometimes during driving it just turns on.  It's been getting worse, and since it's getting colder, it's bad not being able to defrost in the morn.  Thanks a bundle!  Happy halloween!

I bet you its a grounding wire - probably the one attached to the blower fan under the hood.

open hood, prop it,  go stand by pass. side tire leaning into engine bay and there is a wire on the left [on the blower motor] with a ring terminal at the end affixed with a screw to the blower motor case.  the 7mm screw is facing the front of the car and is.... what?  4 o'clock position on the round face of that blower?

turn key fwd [eng off] and put selector fan on 4 [loudest] and move this wire around.  If its not the connection it could be a wire battling breakdown from moisture or something.

I've also had a similar situation where the blower motor was just bad and needed to be replaced.

I've been having the same problem. If it doesn't come on when I start the car I pop the hood and hit the motor with a screwdriver. That usually gets it going. I'm just going to replace the motor when it warms up here.
