Yup, tired of the politics in the Nascar classes, so we are moving to Modified Racing Series... still race at similar tracks, and many more, but more travel involved... NH and Maine and stuff like that, nothing south of CT to my knowledge though.

Check out the info on the division

http://www.modifiedracingseries.com/

We wont be "regulars" at Thompsons Limited Sportsman division... Just to much BS and no rules against the idiots... Also we were probably spending the same amount of money in that division to keep at the top just because we had to fix our car so often... not fun that way. He'd rather spend 2k a race and enjoy it, rather than bring the car home and have to fix the bumpers and body every week, or worse...

Last year we took half the season off after we got pushed up into turn 1 by an out of control idiot, it bent the new tube clip badly and we just didn't have the motovation to fix it for the following week, as well as that individual was not penalized for what he did.. He continued to run that night even though his "excuse" was I lost my brakes, how can you race with no brakes?

Anyways, the MRS division is a no BS division, anyone who punts anyone or causes any un-necessary damage to another car is typically parked for the rest of the race, no questions.

nice at least the new division will eliminate the douchbaggery.

yeah the whole racing with no brakes BS. i imagine you have to use the brakes at some point throughout the race. if he lost his brakes then he should have parked the car.

i agree with you. spending money to fix problems other people create isn't fun. takes money away from other stuff like buying tires and making upgrades.

Made some progress last night, test fitting the roof and other body pannels as well as I got the whole fire supression system installed.

Checking out the rockers so when we go through tech for the first time we don't look like idiots and don't have the right parts... I've never been in a MRS motor so I wasnt sure what secured them down. T45 is what we need.

there is a 4-1 collector with a packed straight through muffler that goes on the end with a downspout... No mufflers would be WAY too loud.

Too bad having the roof on backwards is probably illegal, or at least it would be per IMCA rules. It actually looks kind of cool, reap swoopty with big old fat a-pillars. Kind of like an old Fiat Coupe hotrod, but with fatter pillars.

A lot of nice parts going on that car. Kind of a roundabout off-topic question, but what's the hauler like? I've always had an infatuation with race haulers, between the truck and trailer, you spend more time there than in the car. ;)

Its just a enclosed trailer, nothing all that special. linoleum floor, cabinets up front with bench, and roll around tool box strapped to wall with tire carrier over car.

Remember we are sponsorless currently and he's paying for this from his pocket... Not every race team has a huge double decker hauler with AC and a kitchen ;)

We actually won two Championships with the old car towing that around with an open wheel trailer and plastic bins in the bed of the truck with the spare parts and tools we needed. Those were the days :)

This is the enclosed trailer with the old truck...
Image

He has a new truck now since that one only had 2 wheel drive and he could barley get out of his old drive way, nevermind an acting up carb that he didn't have time to troubleshoot.

New truck
Image

Old pic of the crew from 2008 with the logo thats now on the trailer. Two big guys and me are all thats left... the other three were friends from his work that moved on to other things. We also have Larrys wife's brother helping out from time to time now. It's easier for him now since his kid is a bit older and he can make it to shop nights.

Here is a blog his wife started too

http://www.37modified.blogspot.com/

Way too much back and forth last night on finding a good spot to mount the ignition... but after getting a call back from his uncle we are using the same spot his cousin is on his car. I was hoping to be working on plumbing the oil system but I need to wait again till we get lines we ordered cheaper from Goodridge vs the Summit stuff... We are keeping that for spares and possibly sending stuff back since it wont be needed.

Image

Fire pull handle and 110v outlet for oil heater.
Image

Test fitting old nose parts with new hood and also finding out what needs to be trimmed for the larger headers.
Image

Image

Going back on Thursday to hopefully have oil lines to figure out and also start in on doing the ignition final wiring to have the whole electrical system done! That would be REALLY nice to have done.

He's having essentially a whole new body made from J&J Custom Design so it matches Troyer specs so we can either use that stuff OR something he could make up for us if we need it... Plus it will just look better. Hopefully we'll have that stuff by the end of the week... 2 1/2 weeks countdown till its on the track. YIKES!
