Today's Salvage Yard Rarities!

Post by scd88ga »

All day today Mark (Snowblinbburd) and I wandered around a couple huge pick n pull yards and came across some very rare pieces of GM history. Here's some pics!

1984 Chevy Citation X-11 Notchback 2.8 HO V6 4 speed! As you can see in the pics, this car was donated by GM for educational purposes and the VIN tag has been removed.

I know Mark has some more pics/cars to add.

All in all a fun day and saw some cool cars that you just don't see anymore! I also bought a bunch on nice Beretta parts! :good: :D :Yahoo!:

The X-11 is a 4 speed manual. That is amazing. Who got the cluster and hood. The air cleaner is unique to x11.

Wow..a GM donated rare car.

We had an X-11 around here long ago. I seemed to be the only one that knew what it was. Everybody else just laughed at it.

Nope, no spoiler on the notch. Sad to see the factory fiberglass bulge hood and X11 gauge cluster was long gone too! :(

The 1981 to 1985 Citation X-11 models had legitimate performance upgrades such as a 2-bbl 2.8 V6 High Output engine, including F41 sport suspension, rear spoiler, special axle ratios, special full instrumentation with a 7000 rpm tach, front and back stabilizer bars, 14" specific alloy wheels with the word "Citation" cast in, Goodyear Eagle GT P215/60 R14 radial tires, functional fiberglass cowl induction hood with "High Output V6" logo and also on the air filter housing on the 81-84 X-11 models, dual sport mirrors, "strobe" style X-11 graphics on the lower side doors and rear spoiler, standard 4-speed overdrive manual or the optional 3-speed automatic, both with special gearing.

1984 was the rarest year of the X-11 and the notchback was WAY more rare than the hatchback! Plus being a manual transmission makes it even rarer! WOW!

X-11 production
1981: 11,631
1982: 3,864
1983: 1,934
1984: 1,458
1985: 1,687

Some Citation history that led to the Beretta!
In addition to the X platform, GM also created a new line of engines for the Citation and its sisters. The 2.8 L LE2 V6 was the first of the 60°Family of engines. The X platform was used in 1982 as the basis for the new front-wheel drive A-body cars. The X platform was also the basis for the future L-body and N-body cars.

The Citation was dropped after the 1985 model year, ultimately replaced by the L-body Beretta coupe and Corsica sedan in 1987.

No idea, the yard this stuff was at is an 1 -1.5 drive from my house. I can get 3300 mounts locally though. I'll get you a price on those and I'm still looking for that other stuff you wanted.

notchbacks didn't get spoilers. nor was the spoiler only used on X11.

The guy who did the body work on my 95 DGGM owned almost this exact car except white paint. His was the dark maroon color.

I had a Pontiac 6000 coupe with similar suspension to the X11. The car had stiffer springs and thicker sway bars, the same steering rack. It handled quite well. Citations were a bit lighter. Because of the engine layout these cars make good engine swap candidates. They also share quite a bit with Fiero's.

Neither, all these cars were at Wally's in Oshkosh. Cousineu was just there picking up crushed cars for recycling. Are you interested in any of the stuff? I did get some prices on the 3 sets of wheels. PM me if ya want!

The x11 I had was also 4spd. I figured most of them were manuals for the SCCA racing they were sought after. but who knows maybe the auto is more rare?
