CV shaft

Post by beretta »

Will a right side CV shaft from a 94 quad 5 speed fit a 88 v6 5 speed ?

Are they the same length? the one i had originally off the 88 was for 2.0 L auto and the right side was the same or it was close enough it fit anyway and i used it for a while.. (I think)

It should be the same where it connects to the jack shaft ?
Only difference i think might be is the newer one is ABS and the 88 isnt..

Will the ABS cv shaft fit my hub. i have the spindals from the 94.

I already grabbed the driver side complete strut and cv shaft for the wheel bearing, i put that in my 96 last night and it has fairly new rotors on it, so im going back today to take the passenger side out and i might as well take the cv shaft as well because it wont cost me any extra to take it too. if i was smart i think i should grab the jack shaft too.

Im asking about the cv shaft because im pulling it out anyways, and my 88 needs one so if it will fit thats a bonus. rock auto wont list it for the 87-91 because the 94 one has abs but they very well could be the same length.

Length is the only thing to be concerned about.

The splines are all the same between the axles, auto or 5 speed. Any axle will fit any of the knuckles (abs axle or not).

The easiest thing to do is sit them side by side and compare the length.

Check compressed length too just to ensure it wont bind even though it may appear to be the same length when resting.

ok well i got the passenger side out today.. appears one side had a new strut because the driver side has bracket for sway bar link or something.

I only took the whole thing with axles mainly because its easy just to pull the whole thing then try to take just the wheel bearing ect. and it had newer rotors and brakes on it and my 96 is in need of them pretty bad.

The axles are just a bonus if they will fit my 88 5 speed. i have already replaced them once with remains and withing the first 2 weeks the passenger side was clicking bad again, even just moving, they had 1 year warrenty but i had just bought my 96 around that time and wasnt driving the 88 much and took it off the road shortly after. couldnt be bothered to pull it out and having it last only 2 weeks anyways i didnt want another one of those brands.

Now that nicer weather is around the corner i want to get the 88 back in top shape so i can start driving it again i miss my 5 speed.
