i suspect i made a boo boo! ground in the fr pass wh-well

Post by berettaboi »

well i was multitasking last monday, changing coolant, front valve cover gasket, oil change, checking front brakes and suspension, fuel filter, and swapping rims/tires... i found a connector dangling, rusted off of it's original placement in the front passenger side wheel well, right around the side marker, attached into the sidemarker harness. i pulled out the connector end that used to be attached to something (i now suspect horn? is there a horn on that side?... i'm pretty sure it's on the drivers... but is there 2? i wasnt paying close enough attention as i didnt have much room to play with the car on jack stands), i mistook it as a ground as the connector that pulled out (end that rusted off of something), seemingly looks to bridge the 2 wires together...

so i undid a bolt in the area, and snipped the wires, and twisted them together and snugged it up with the bolt... but tried to use my horn today(which worked before), and my fog lights shut down, and power locks stopped working, as well as no horn... replaced the 20 amp fuse which is located right near the bottom of the steering column, and back in action for the fogs and locks... i will just not use the horn as it is pretty quiet compared to many cars anyways... have to finish running wire and switch inside for my air horn...

any clue what it was likely attached to before i tear into it again? oh, and iirc, it is a black and a green wire... i'll take a pic of the connector as i tossed it in the tool box i think.

If you have a base, you get both horn wires but only have one horn on the driver's side. The Z's had dual horns, one on each side. Untwist the wires, that is why you blew a fuse. They are not supposed to be connected together or bolted to ground!!!!

*slaps you with a trout

You should know better than to do something like that man! :P

just the connector that was rusted off of 'what i didnt know', looked like it bridged the 2 'ground looking wires' together... lol oh well, i suppose that's why them there fuses are there huh?

Probably rusted off the horn. Mine did that, so I replaced them both with a dual tone air horn. Need to do the same thing with the base.
