Re: what did you do to your ride today?
S&S is 1 5/8" and I keep hearing SBC guys who are running 1 1/2" up to 400HP to keep their tq curve higher and also due to the fact that their exhaust valves are 1.5 dia or less, or at least thats what they use to determine a good primary size. I figure whats the harm, If they raise torque and don't hurt top end.. Awesome, if they do nothing oh well, and if they hurt it, I put the S&S ones back on and sell the TOG's fitted to a Beretta to someone on here with a lower HP setup where they will work.KFLO 93 GT wrote:That's a sweet find! What size are your current headers, 1 5/8, or smaller than 1 1/2?
I received an alternator from Rock Auto. New ACDelco, and returned some cheap shock mounts at ORLY and ordered some Moogs that will be here tomorrow. Ideally I can get next Monday requested off tomorrow, then next weekend I can go to town once I get off work Friday. New Water Pump, New Alternator, then hit the rear end stuff. Bilsteins and custom coils.
Many hours of work before I can work...

As a general rule, you want primaries that are sized the same as your exhaust valve or slightly bigger. What is the exhaust valve size of your heads? I'm using 1-5/8 primaries on the Camaro with a 1.50 exhaust valve.3X00-Modified wrote:S&S is 1 5/8" and I keep hearing SBC guys who are running 1 1/2" up to 400HP to keep their tq curve higher and also due to the fact that their exhaust valves are 1.5 dia or less, or at least thats what they use to determine a good primary size. Same as every other 3x00 1.42" which is why I feel that 1 5/8 is just a bit too large and could be hurting torque.

Re: what did you do to your ride today?
My original fuel pump threw in the towel today! I putted it down the road for like 3 miles running lean before getting it back home. New fuel pump / fuel filter / and 4 new spark plugs for $108 and it will be good as new in the next couple days! Not many of the original parts are left to replace on the car now... BAH! lol

Rolled over to 290k on the odo today. Ha! 1500 more miles and its oil change time. Maybe sooner, it is the first time this engine ever had Synthetic. Haven't had hardly any lifter ticking since changing it either, been great. To be honest it really runs good, engine and power wise. Almost seems stronger than the Z. Not sure if that is due to the WAI or not though. Ah well.

Re: what did you do to your ride today?
I used to stick to just Mobil 1 in the Z, but these days, I roll with whatever brand happens to be on sale with a filter. Keeps the cost done on the oil changes anyway. So Valvoline, Castrol, Royal Purple, etc. I find that it really doesn't matter quite so much, when these engines are this old. lol But all my cars always get synthetic, I won't use regular oil anymore. Always 10w30 in summer and 5w30 in winter. And I don't use high mileage oils either. That is just a gimmick. I get by with the regular straight synthetic just fine.

Re: what did you do to your ride today?
Went to my local chevy dealer for a wheel alignment.
Figured they might remember how to do one on a beretta.
It was good the mechanic asked if it was a 2.8
I said no, then he's like nice headers can you pop the hood for me?haha

Re: what did you do to your ride today?
This is what I've been up to for whole week (using my winter holiday week for this)
Swapping the Isuzu transmission from my black car to Getrag/Munchie/New Venture thing.
Finally managed to get the surprisingly rare 92+ V6 case. I think\hope this should resolve all the issues I've ever had on the car
Thanks Barry!

Out came most of the Isuzu parts from black car.

Transmission assembly platform I scored from Ebay is worth every penny.
Mounted there are the original Getrag 282 internals from my white car, still in perfect shape.
I decided to use these one because of the gearing. I also have 3 other Quad transmissions and 3.94 FDR, but I think the usual 3.64 will fit my application better.

Only parts I replaced with new, 2 gaskets and input bearing, everything else was good to go.
I found NOS bearing out of Ebay, but it only worked with External slave, Lucky me, I had new bearing on the 4DFF trans case I never used.

The setup will be like this:
V6 engine - Isuzu flywheel - V6 clutch - NVG bearing and hydraulics*1 - NVG case - Quad Getrag internals*2 - Quad shifter and cables*3 - Quad axles*4
*1 Adapter to fit internal slave hydraulics to external slave clutch pedal
*2 Using reverse gear shaft from NVG (different length)
*3 Modified shifter arm to mount never style knob
*4 Axles machined to fit ABS-sensor rings from 3T40 axles, also have to build a bracket for intermediate shaft.

90 Quad axle end & added ABS ring
What is also on the list:
- Go back the the stock drivetrain mounting.
- Replace strut mounts
- Replace FE7 endlinks
- Misc fixes like some gaskets and wire loom replacement

Here's a NOS NVG front mount from Vintage parts.
On rear I'm using mount from Quad car, still in perfect condition.
[picture is missing]
Also NOS GM engine strut specifically for V6\NVG combo, Vintage Parts FTW.
More to come... Lot to do

I have them already, they are in the trunk of the car, ill post pics soon.
Re: what did you do to your ride today?
I finally drove my car for the first time today after storing it for winter (which was real mild in the chicagoland area this year). It drives great, very smooth considering the car's pushing over 160K on the odometer. Switching daily drivers from my kia 1.6L to the 2.2 was nice, that extra low end grunt is much welcomed in around town driving. Drove it on the highway for the first time since putting that gtu spoiler awhile back, and i have to say, that spoiler really plants the back-end at speed. god how i missed driving her!
Re: what did you do to your ride today?
^^ YES ^^
Replaced my trunk release/cig lighter fuse, blew my trunk release/cig lighter fuse, and repeat. Just can't use the lighter outlet.
Gotta replace the outlet, don't really bother me. No real use for it, except for the air compressor. It's all good.
Drove it good... SMOOTH ALL THE WAY!!!!
I love driving this car, can't say that enough, nothing drives like retta, even a base! I test drove a beat up looking 1994 5 speed base today, and it was nice, even though it was beat on the outside.(Lots of dents and dings, and peeling paint.) Motor and trans were strong, body was shot, as usual, rockers were GONE! Clean inside though, guy wanted 2 grand and won't budge. Not gonna happen, oh well, at least now I know how a 2.2 5 speed feels, and it kinda makes me wanna change my user name LOL. It had 154k on it, and had NO head problems! Time for me to find a 96 2.2L 5 speed base in good shape. Where are they all!
