Where to buy replacement panels
Where to buy replacement panels
trying to find where you can buy replacement panel for the door jam. (96/Z26) Ron, needs one for his car. i have rocker panels with the top rails, he just needs the door jam part for the driver side his has a small hole that we patched for the time being.
and anyone know if you can buy the inner rocker part ? theres the outer rocker panel, then inside there is some structure part that runs the full length inside the rocker then the inside layer is the floor pan.

Are you talking about the front lower pillar? The front corner that typically rots out on our cars? Give me a moment, I may have a link to something.

Its the whole hinge pillar support you need. You may also need the reinforcement depending on how bad it is. That amount of rot is why I junked the red car. Pinky has none of this and the underside in that area only had surface rust.

Re: Where to buy replacement panels
its the lower pillar just in front of the door sill plate it had a 2 inch hole, and it was pretty bad inside but we sand blasted the crap out of it and covered the hole with a new piece of metal for now. its just the very front of it that was bad inside and nothing visible underneath.
the reinforcement part is the inside piece ? and he just needs the lower pillar section like the first 6 inches of it at the most. its crazy cuz it was only a small hole then i got grinding away and it just started falling apart and the inside part just crumbled when it was touched. for now we just put a patch on it after sandblasting inside and just oil spray the hell out of it it should be fine for now.
hes going to pick up the rocker panels i have and have it changed later on. i was just looking to where he could get the pillar part and the piece inside.

Re: Where to buy replacement panels
The crappy part about that is your patching a hole from the top, the damage starts from below... If you get under there and look you'll see the whole lower rocker is rotted out as well. This is one of those areas where you may have to hire an expert to see what they can do at replicating the stock stuff that was there.
I do not think these panels are available anymore either but you could try and see what they say. I know when they did exist they were at least $350 per side.

Ouch... thats pretty expensive eh..
ya it was pretty bad inside, but it appears to be just the front lower section. we sand blasted the crap out of it inside the panel and got 90 % of the stuff out. i think if he oil sprays the crap out of it that it wont get any worse and stop it from rusting more. the rocker is a little so so.. and i have a set of brand new never installed rockers hes going to get from me.
just really sucks knowing that it was rusty in there. oil spraying it should stop it from going any further and we got it cleaned up from the top and patched up.
Its not my car, its another members from the board, he bought the car in Ontario from the original owner low millage. its so darn shinny and everything looks so mint on it, there is no rust anywhere else that we have seen, even in the back its spotless.
I got nervous after seeing the rocker and went to look at my 96, it has plugs all around inside the top of the rockers its been oil sprayed before and it still looks like new from the top and bottom no rust. I think my 88 is pretty good to i cant see any visible rust anywhere on it.
The bad part though.. on my 96, above the axle the paint is chipping off all over has some surface rust starting, my plans this summer is to pull the rear axle out and sand blast everything and re paint it. same as the rear bumper support is all surface rust in my 96.. Rons car how ever is like brand new shape every where underneath, its just the first 5 inches of the inside of the rocker.
