1990 beretta GTZ quad 4 question

Post by 1990BerettaGTZ2.3L »

Are all quad 4 16 valves the same or is the high output in the beretta special or something cause if this motor that's in mine that was bought out of a junkyard is no good I wanna know if all are the same, now I know that the w41 is different of course just cause of the bigger cams but if anyone could let me know that would be sweet

That I know of the W41 has the cams and a head that flows better. If I remember right there is a better flowing head for non HO's. Something about what year it is. I'm sure I'm very wrong on that though.

Different year Quads have different mounting bosses, two different styles of timing chain setups, and there were several different cylinder heads used (ranging from excellent to piss poor flow) and a few other minor differences. But overall, yes, an HO is an HO.

W41's got 4 valve relief pistons (2 exhaust, 2 intake) , higher lift cams to make the extra 10 ponies, and a snazzy red "made for Oldsmobile" W41 IDI cover. They also got a slightly higher redline (7025 rpm's vs 6750 rpm's in the HO) and of course the nice little 3.94 FDR trans that the HO's didn't get until '92 vs the 3.61 FDR trans.

Is there any block numbers to look for so I know what motor they put in this car cause it was a junkyard motor that someone put the high output cover back on and left the old one in the box of parts on the car

differences between and ho and lo is basicly the pistons, cams, different types of heads, as mentioned before timing chains, ect.. you really wont know, theres no way to really tell, other then pull off the cam towers and look at the cams, lo cams are more rounded then ho cams iirc. but theres no way to tell the difference between a h.o. cam and w41 cam unless you put both in an old cam housing and use one of those tools with the litle point to calibrate the lope difference... i cant for the life of me remember the name of it. lol
1991 beretta GTZ- 2.3l w41 cams, ported 086 head with a 3 angle valve job, fidanza flywheel with exedy racing clutch, 3.94fdr from and scx, so much more..
