GASOLINE

Post by #1 stunna »

...A new gas station opened down the street , and they are selling ethanol-free 90 octane fuel on one of the pumps. Anyone else run this gas in your retta :unknown: ?I know its suppose to give you better MPG and be cleaner for the engine...... but i have concerns about putting it in my "old 88"- dont want to make my baby sick

You can use it it won't hurt. It's what the car was made to run on when it was built, minus the 90 octane part. Ethanol was added years ago to lower gas prices and fund American farmers (corn)

90 octane is way too high and a waste of money... I doubt it burns any cleaner and its not going to give you any more power. There might however be a slight MPG increase since straight gas is more efficent than Ethanol... but I don't think it's that big of a difference.

Yeah nobody says ethanol is not clean, it's actually cleaner than pure gasoline. Moonshine baby

Why would you run 90 octane in a engine made to run 87? its a waste of money. I would tell anyone running 91 in a stock Beretta engine that its too high and a waste.

I guess the use of the word "way" is out of place.

I ran 91 in my car (2.8L Auto) for a bit and found that it did provide better gas mileage, but only slightly. I have since gone back to 87. I don't believe that the slight increase in MPG was worth the extra few bucks.

Its an illusion... octane has nothing to do with mileage... its a fact not just a guess either.

And IIRC the quad actually only needs 91... now my Legacy needs 93...

It doesn't hurt to put higher octane in does it? Just for the heck of it when I got gas I got the mid grade (the lowest was $4 and mid was only like $4.07)

Didn't seem to run any different, not that I expected it to.

God though, I hope gas goes down, I'm not gonna be able to afford to run my 7.5L 455 LeMans when its done at this rate lol

If you are not detonating, higher octane gas is pointless. Pure gasoline rather than E10 of the same rating is worth a slight improvement, but not much.

I know I know... but I got better MPG. Be it because of a lighter foot on those tanks, so be it.

You're both wrong (You and Speedy). The Quad was built to run on a MINIMUM of 90 octane. As you go up the Quads behave better.
