getrag input shaft bearing/sleeve

Post by Z26_T »

Decided to finally get around to doing some work on my car. Clutch has been slipping for 3 months and the semester is finally over. Pulled the car into work today, dropped the engine and trans and found the input shaft bearing/seal was jacked. The sleeve for the throw out bearing broke off. Was wondering if anyone has had this problem before, and what they did to fix it. JB weld? lol

So if you don't know what i'm talking about I circled the slide in this photo I stole from Woody's build. Thanks for the picture woody.

JBweld....

Woody found a rebuild kit for these through Autozone or Advance Auto or something and I remember seeing that part included... or maybe I did... It's worth getting that PN from him to see if you can still get this kit.

I was mostly joking about JB weld... mostly haha. Slightly better option than welding it due to the seal..

Thanks for the link woody. I googled the part # from your thread and "Gmpartsgiant.com" says that they have it.. i e-mailed them and will call them soon if they don't respond. If push comes to shove I guess i'll buy that rebuild kit. Cheaper than finding a used trans, but not by much.

I scored NOS bearing like that from ebay, was only listed with GM part number... And only costed pennies. :D

i have to put output shaft seals in my trans, is it possible to change the cv shaft bearings without removing the trany and taking it apart ? i know the seals are pretty simple to do, just not sure if its worth it to throw in some new bearings while im in there.

Just found a great url for anyone that wants to rebuild their getrag 282s. Has a copy of a rebuild manual.

was able to find the bearing through http://www.touristtransmission.com/ gave them the part # 8672128 and they were able to get the bearing and a detent cover for $82. (not pennies like weba, but better than the 250 for a rebuild kit).
