GTU/INDY Mirror disassembly??????

Post by indygurl »

so i have to replace both the glass on my indy mirrors, so i am wondering is anyone has had any experiance in taking these apart. mine also have huge bees nest behind them from years past, the driver glass is broken and the passenger has the purpleish haze. would like to clean them up. i didn't see if there was already a write up on this. so if there is i'm sorry. just want to get this done. also this is the smallest it would go.

Just buy mine!!! :Yahoo!:

Seriously though...i think that if you do it carefully, the glass snaps onto the adjuster piece but is a PITA to get off.

both are held in with screws, but the drivers side you need to remove the glass from the adjuster before it will come out, the glass is secured with double stick tape, so if you can get some small wire behind it and pull it to one side you can possibly cut through it like a cheese cutter. the passenger side you can take two screws out from the bottom and the whole glass should slide out with the holder attached.

ronaconda appearently jking18 replied to it on mine because that is his words. haha he just never told me. but the guy i got the car from has some i can get for like 30. he just has to find them in his beretta indy parts mess. and 3X00-Modified ill try that for the driver side, but for the passenger side we already took the screws out but it hasn't wanted to come out. i have been driving the car with the screws out so i guess its a good thing that it hasnt' fallen out while driving it. i will try to pull it out and see. but it will have to wait til either the rain stops or i get out of work tomorrow afternoon. it sucks not having a garage. I will make sure to do it myself and not let jking anywhere near it.. haha just kidding. i think. but thank you. i guess they cant get any worse than they already are. but i need to get them fixed soon because the only mirror i can see out of is my rearview. so when i stop on the side of the road i have to either look over my shoulder or use my rearview. and the same when i back into my spot at home..

My little adjuster knob doesnt work anyways or maybe its just because of the bees nest behind it. but we have deep creep wd40 and liquid wrench. which im sure any one will work.

Take something and bust up the nest behind the mirror and see if that fixes it before you go dismantling your mirror.

they have to come off anyways for me to replace the glass. i would rather keep my original mirrors because they are still in great shape, better than most i have seen.

No non indy glass is not compatable only gtu and indy but the guy i got the car from has a bunch of teal mirrors so i can buy a set off him and take the glass. and felix what i did for the passenger mirror is undid the screws and pryed it just a bit not to much with a regular flat screw drivier and took a really small one and got the nest out. first spray some bee spray just in case. haha. thats what i did
