New fuel filter was leaking.

Post by BerettaMN »

So I did my oil on my car last weekend, and figured Id do the fuel filter this weekend Ive owned the car for like a little over a year now 91 3.1 I installed the new filter and it was leaking from the tank hose to the filter, so I took it back out and the old one back in no leak. I hopped on rock auto and ordered the same plastic fram one that was in there. Got it yesterday and it seemed like a better fit but had a small leak enough to keep getting the quick disconect wet. Put the old one back in and no leak again! Pising me off at this point.

So today I bought one of those dorman fuel line repair kits, 800-058, ut the old quick disconect off the line coming from the tank and Installed the kit. What a pain in the ass to heat up the nylon hose and insert the barbed fitting into both ends. But did it and installed new filter again and now no leaks.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever had this much trouble and a leak from the line coming off the tank to the fuel filter when putting a new filter in?

Only time I had an issue is when that little oring went missing or I didn't FORCE that line on the fuel filter hard enough.

It was in all the way, the quick connect snaps even clicked, then I tried putting an O ring on the nipple then putting it back in still did it. For some reason the 2 o rings inside the fuel hose fitting that you cant get to were just old or worn out?

These cars are old, o-rings dry up and conform to what they were once on, so putting it on a new filter means it needs to reshape and it just can't do that anymore, thats why it would leak on a new but not the old one.
