ROUGH idle, no power

Post by Guest »

My quad 4 has absolutely no power, its hard to drive it up the driveway. It idles really really rough, below 1000rpm too. A bit of oil in antifreeze overflow. A bit of white gunk on dipstick when pulled. jacked up car to look around, and a large amount of antifreeze is leaking out, cant see where the leak is at tho. Exhaust smells and looks fine, i pulled the plugs and none are fouled , they look and smell fine too. Blown head gasket ?
My step dad told me i could have a cloged cat.conv. but i dont think that would make antifreeze leak, unless some kinof back pressure would do that. Motor only has around 98k. Any one know whats up ? think i have a blown gasket ?

Cracked head could be the issue.  No compression to make the power so it lost all it's guts.
Hope it's just a headgasket and not a cracked head.

Oil in the coolant...  how many times have I read this already this year.

You could just check it out to see what wrong with it by doing a compression check.

I would disconnect the exhaust and see if your power comes back, or put a pressure tap into the pipe before the muffler.

I'll try the exhaust thing, or disconnect the cat. conv. , but i donno why antifreeze would come out. But i was trying to sell it anyways, my brother told me i could buy his z26 off him for 300 so i wont be berettaless and i will haev a car to dirve.

88gtu....The body has around 222k, but in good shape, needs some paint touchups, nothin huge tho. Has kumho tires 225/50/16, the motor has around 95 k, installed at 81 k, with the install there was a new clutch and new water pump. curlymij555@yahoomail.com is my email if you have some more questions. The AF could be as simple as a water pump, which can also cause water in the oil.

The water pump was replaced with the motor install, so i dont know if it would go out that fast. But arent those a big project to replace in the quad ?

blown gasket or head--the cat is not going cause oil and antifreeze to mix.If there is bad cat-it's a coincidence.in my opinion.
