310k miles on a 3T40 (how long should it last)

Post by seabass1858 »

I have 310k miles on my3t40 / 3.1l combo

My question is being my everyday driver, how long should the tranny last, how much life does it have left.

That's like asking how much life is left on Grandma who's 80. She could go tomorrow, or in 20 years.
The 3t40 isn't a terrible trans (minus the TCC issue.) But if it's a stock trans with 300k miles on it, you're on borrowed time. The clutches in auto trans wear out just like a clutch with a manual trans. If you beat them, they wear faster. If you don't replace the fluid, the also can wear faster. My suggestion: If you want it to last, don't drive it like you stole it.
