Well that will not cause it to stick, but that is a problem.

Actually, leaking brake fluid can soak into the brake shoes and cause the material to swell thus making the drum hang up on the shoes!

probably was close to time for a rear brake job, possibly the lining (brake material) came off of the backing... now wedged... wont be the first time. could be the rivets as well, they are normally a lot noisier though (metal on metal). get a new set of drums, shoes and a spring kit and do them one at a time... use the other side for reference as to how the springs go back on... it's not as bad as everyone thinks. adjust the adjuster till you have a slight drag when you put the drum back on... (i smack the shoes around a bit-with my hands...no tools- to get them in place and sitting properly), you may pull the drum several times while finding a decent adjuster setting.

the 'knocking' sound you heard was a warning you should have looked at it sooner though!

Well, here's the update (sort-of) that I was gonna give lol

I ripped it down and I'm replacing the wheel cylinder now, I'll check the passenger side one too just to see if its okay. I'll update again when it's fixed.

I realized it wasn't the thing to do, it was just a spur of the moment thing.

Well, I fixed it a few days ago. It was the wheel cylinder causing it to smoke. Now just to change the other side.. However, the car now seems to sputter when at low rpms cruising and at half+ throttle, and it seems to kick in and out of lockup going up hills (might just be the jerking/sputtering though) Happened after leaving it sit for about a week.

Pretty sure not, It didn't have much gas in it, so I put gas in it and put some additive in it and it made no difference. Still fully driveable but embarrassing.

Check your ohm's on the coils make sure one isn't starting to fail.

Didn't check that yet. But I figured I would add that it seems to be when the car warms up, when cold the car seems fine. I was told by someone that it was the TPS (throttle position sensor), would that be right? I doesn't do it in part or neutral, so it seems to be only when warm when there is a load on it.
