turn signal issues

Post by Guest »

Hi there, i'm new to this site and cars in general so please bare with me. I recently picked up an 88 beretta 2.8l 5spd from a friend of mine for about 300$. The car seems to run quite well and everything, though there is one problem that I can't seem to figure out.

The left turn signal works normally, the hazard lights flash normally, but the right turn signal just stays solid. The lights in the front and rear for the turn signal both light up, they just dont blink. They blink normally with the hazard switch turned on, but not when I try to use the turn signal.

I was told by someone at Advance Auto that it could be the sockets for the side marker lights that is screwing with things, as they are a bit corroded and nasty looking. The person I bought the car from said that its probably the turn signal flasher, but that wouldn't be logical because wouldn't both turn signals be screwed up if the flasher was dead? I picked up a Haynes manual, but its for such a large variety of models that they dont really get into specific details on things.

Anyways, I was just hoping to get an opinion on this problem from someone who is experienced with beretta's.

I just looked at the wiring diagram in my haynes manual and there is a hazard light flasher and signal light flasher so they are separate.

I think there might be a short somewhere or something, because the turn signal worked for about 20 minutes tonight. Only thing I did was pull out the hazard flasher and then put it back in. Was trying to find the turn signal flasher but didn't have too much time to poke around in there.

definatly clean the corrosion from the socets, that will help. If its still doing the same thing it could be the turn signal switch just because the left is working, dont rule it out. the terminals under the wheel could be messed up.

alright, thanks for the idea. I'll have to get some stuff done after I get out of work on saturday and hopefully ill be able to get everything ready to pass inspection by next week.

also was thinking about putting an intake in, but im not sure if I should just go cheap and get a hot air intake, or if I should shell out the extra cash and get a CAI. My car has a MAF, and didn't see any kind of sticker under the hood saying it got the software update or whatever it is it needs. Not quite sure what I would ask for if I were to go to a dealer to get the update done. Any information on this stuff would be appreciated as I couldn't find a whole lot about it when I searched the forums. I'm pretty sure im going to need to get the intake done before the car will pass inspection because the stock air box thats in there is rusted shut and I would say the filter in there is probably shot to hell.

checked the blinker sockets today and there was a bunch of brown colored goup in them. cleaned it out and it seems to be working perfectly now. Hopefully that was what was causing the blinker to not work correctly. I also replaced one of the bulbs that looked a little iffy, just in case it had been that.
