Yeah technically a stolen car... Did Mechanic work and never got paid, Does not have title... I wouldn't touch that with a 10ft pole.

Re: 95 Z near raleigh
Lots of mechanic shops do that down here. If the owner doesn't pay the bill within a certain amount of time, the car becomes the shop's property. A shop just up the street from my work does this. Granted, I'm sure it's stated in the paperwork that the customer signs that they do this, but still, it's legal (at least down here). I've actually thought about looking for a minivan at a local shop just to get some cheap transportation for 2 kids and a dog on road trips.

i asked him a few specific questions about its condition via email and he kind of danced around it a little. 215k is a ton of miles for a car that may or may not need lots of work. i was going to go look but i think i will pass on it

If it was a 96, I'd be all over it.

It doesn't state that its a mechanic shop and I would requre to see paperwork that shows the owner knew this would happen when they didn't pay... Without that paper it's not legal.heavywoody wrote:Lots of mechanic shops do that down here. If the owner doesn't pay the bill within a certain amount of time, the car becomes the shop's property. I 100% agree with you, I'd do the same thing.3X00-Modified wrote:It doesn't state that its a mechanic shop and I would requre to see paperwork that shows the owner knew this would happen when they didn't pay... Without that paper it's not legal.

That's how I bought my truck. Guy took it to the shop to get fixed (auto trans), shop tried and could not fix it, guy abandoned the truck. The shop owner was skeevy though. He did not disclose that the trans did not work correctly, and lied to me about the 4WD working. He didn't have any paperwork transferring the truck to his name either. Just a signed title from the previous owner with a notary stamp.
I got lucky, you may not.

Thats the seal on the deal right there though. However they could fight that there is no bill of sale or something, but then again all that could be forged. I would just be leery of a car that has no title or paperwork showing it's his possession now.woody90gtz wrote:He didn't have any paperwork transferring the truck to his name either.
