Re: Loud humming unless turning right..
^ I had this happen to my Z! Wheel bearing went from making no noise to a ton of noise in a 20 mile drive to work. I wanted to make it to work and right when I pulled out onto the highway a half mile from work I heard a big SNAP! I limped it at like 5mph into the work parking lot. The wheel bearing had cracked and separated and snapped off the end of the axle! The ONLY thing holding the wheel on was the caliper! SCARY STUFF! BTW, this was the original GM wheel bearing from 94 and the car had about 115k on it at the time...Money pit Beretta wrote:It is best to buy a good brand of bearings. Cheap ones don't last long.
I saw something that put the fear of wheel bearings in me long ago. This Monte Carlo was sitting right on the line at a stop light(it looked like a normal stop). I looked over as I pulled up and saw fear in all three kids faces. So I looked down at the front end and the wheel, rotor, caliper and the brake line were gone. I looked around and they were no where to be seen. I said to the GF "that's it, I'm changing the wheel bearings next weekend". Mine were making some noise at the time. Just an FYI story there for you. All I could think about was what if that happened on the highway. Those kids were lucky.

Yeah, get that thing installed ASAP!GTU89 wrote:Just figured I'd update, I'll probably be installing the bearing assembly tomorrow. Or at the very least have it on hand to do soon.
It's defiantly getting worse, now it does it at around 30mph, guess I should really do it soon. Any special tools I'll need to rent?
To answer your question on special tools needed:
a 1/2'' drive 30mm impact socket (to remove the axle nut)
a 1/2'' drive Torque wrench (to torque the new axle nut to spec)
Either a torx or allen socket, whatever your caliper uses (to remove brake caliper)

Okay, got it for $39 with a 20% discount from the aforementioned place.
Hope it's the right side one so I don't have to rip it all apart again.
