When it comes to a car I've learned ANYTHING is possible. If it was my car i'd check your fuel pressure, you might want to consider cleaning the egr valve or at least checking it out

I once worked at an Autozone I really don't recommend their emmission/electrical parts ALOT of those came back bad. I understand some were due to owner stupidity, messing up parts. but most were shotty workman ship I went through 5 alternators right off the shelf using their bench tester coming up bad before I found a good one when I worked there.

EGR won't cause problems unless it's stuck open. The style I have always sticks closed and just puts on the SES light is all.

AZ does have some crappy electronic parts. I got a CPS there for cheap and it failed very soon. Went to another store and it was 3x the price and looked like OEM. I too have heard a lot of troublesome parts coming from there.

You think they're electric parts are $hit, Their rebuild motors are WORSE while I was there 9 out of 10 motors came back w/ problems. cracked blocks, bad rings, but I think the best was 1 motor that had like 3 different piston bore sizes.   I gave up even trying to sell them. (carbs. wern't much better)
