anybody who is willing to help me rebuild my GTZ?
anybody who is willing to help me rebuild my GTZ?
it's been awhile guys, but depending on how my saab does, and the fact I cannot afford a g35 coupe just yet, I may HAVE to bring the GTZ out of retirement. I don't like it, but it's needing a complete rebuild most likely. Honestly I am going to need a daily driver, and when it was running, the GTZ was nice and smooth.
my saab is having front end issues big time, and I found a puddle of oil under her today
.. not too happy..
I saw a pretty good deal on an engine here, but I think it's a bit far to drive to get when I dont have a quality vehicle to make the trip. I'd rather try to salvage the engine I have in it if possible.. Any thoughts? With how nice this car is I really dont wanna part with it it's a sentimental vehicle to me.

I can offer financial compensation of course if someone can actually fix this with me.. I'd be looking to do it sooner than later, if my saab ends up biting the dust I am in deep ****. I finally landed a starting career position as an IT coordinator, im always busy, working for a prestigious accounting firm (tough people to deal with). I cannot miss work as they all depend on me every day to run the place's computer (w/my IT outsourcing company of course!).

Hey tom! Might be easiest to find another beater, like a cavy z24 for the meantime... you can find them cheap, and if you don't beat it too much, they get great mileage and last till they rust out...
I don't know enough about the quads, but you should talk to Speedy, he's is likely one of the closest members to you (besides Berettagtzchick... who's quad kicked the bucket, and she sold to speedy... who is fixing with spare parts)

not quite... I'm within an hour from tvc3-gtz...
If you were able to pull and bring the motor here I'm sure we could work on it in my shop and get it together... but I just don't have a lot of time to be off somewhere working on a car.

Oh wow! I never thought about you proximity! That is an amazing offer Tom. I don't think Jon knows much about quads as per say, but knows exactly where to look for parts and all info necessary! (and has engine tear down/rebuild experience). That is going to be your absolute best option.

Hey I'm always looking for another engine project to work on... It's just a motor so its pretty basic in its operation, it's just a matter of learning all the tricks.
If you can rebuild one engine then you can rebuild almost any if you have specs to work with that's the most important thing.
A subi motor is next on my list this spring/summer for my wife's car.

are quad four engines very heavy? could this engine ride in the back of my car with the seats folded down (remember I can transport snowmobiles in this car, there's that much room)

They are lighter than V6's... I don't see why not.

Worst case I can come help pick up the engine if you can't transport it.

Re: anybody who is willing to help me rebuild my GTZ?
Quads are super simple to rebuild! If you have all the new parts ready to go sitting next to go and the block doesn't need any work, then it's a simple weekend job. All you really need for "specialty tools" are in. lb and ft. lb torque wrenches, a plasti-gauge to be safe, a piston ring compressor, a snap ring pliers, a mid-size 1/2 breaker bar and the big socket for the crank bolt. Setting the timing is idiot proof IMO, other than that follow the torque sequences and procedures and don't put the cam carrier gaskets on backwards! lol
Oh, one more thing to remember is to pull out and clean the oil check-ball valve on the top of the block!

Haha! Besides the couple "tips & tricks" I posted, a Haynes or a Chilton will do just fine.tvc3-gtz wrote:you should write me a manual good sir, then I will do everything in my power to get it published.!
