Longest 30sec of your life...
http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012 ... mpact?lite
Anyone else read about this... I was bored and thought I would do the math to see how long these people had to suffer... It's just sad.
So the plane was at approximately 28,000 feet, and they say it nose dived at speeds possibly exceeding 600mph...
The 621mph figure they gave later on, would mean that it would have been as little as 30.72 sec for the plane to drop from the sky, But that is only if the plane was going over 600mph from where it started which is not true, so it progressed up to that speed meaning the plane was in free fall for over 30sec, possibly near 1 min of decent constantly picking up speed.
That's just sick.

I foresee half a plane worth of people flipping their crap and the other half being calm, cool and collective understanding that what is happening, is indeed happening with no other option.

That would really be a terrible way to go out, especially since there is nothing you can do about it whatsoever.
Why was the pilot 78?? Don't you think that is a bit old to be flying, let alone something like that!

It's a Learjet. That's a small business jet with seating for, I believe, around 8, plus the pilots. Nothing wrong with how old you are, it is how competant and healthy you are. And if you read, 65 is the legal limit for commercial pilots. Private company jets won't have that limit.

Yes but they stated that a LearJet also requires quick reactions and a lot more attention than a typical jet to fly due to its speed hence why some find the age of the pilot a bit odd. But yeah on the same spectrum he could be perfectly fine and healthy to fly that. And unfortunately no one will really know what the initial cause was.

Oxygen system failed.
If you were a passenger wouldn't you rush the cockpit in a dive just to make sure there was someone working the controls? Not too hard to fly a plane, landing is the hard part. Everyone was out cold. Auto pilot had to be off too.
Cabin door locked? No way, they all knew each other.

Here is a good auto pilot story just for the hell of it: a business jet crashed, they found the pilots bare a$$ sticking out the windshield. The auto pilot failed to hold altitude and the pilot was in the back taking a dump.
How's that for a way to go?
