I found one today, after calling about 15 Chevrolet dealerships. $207 plus tax/shipping. The official GM part #10186818
Mine broke inside the cable right about where the exhaust manifold is. This is the second time this has happened to me and the cable broke in the same spot both times. Seems to me like they are snapping/weakening from heat exposure. I have an extra one (broken) but maybe a company could use then ends to fab some sort of replacement.

I put a DEI heat sleeve on mine where it goes past the headers. Even with stock exhaust I think it would be helpful.

Glad to see you got one.

Currently working with a company called Davidson Hardware about having my broken cable duplicated. They will make them single if they can but we would get a better price with a group buy. Right now we are just trying to figure out what it will take to fab the cable. When I get more info I will post back. I would be willing to put up the deposit for say 10 cables if people are truly interested. I know I want an extra set for myself just in case and I figure there are a handful of us with 282's that feel the same. Fingers crossed

As long as they are of good quality, I would also buy a spare set.

If you get it going I will put a topic up on the Quad site. There are very few Beretta owners over there that are not on here, but there are some. Others use that as their main site and only check in here every now and then.

So the company I talked to today said they don't have the means to fab the ends, dead end there. I got numbers for a couple other custom cable companies and will continue to work on this. Stay tuned, will update as I make progress. This is something I will pursue since I plan to have my Beretta for a long time.

Spoke with a guy today at a place called Mako hose & rubber company in FL and the said there is a good chance they could do it. They asked me to send them my broken cable and they will see if they can duplicate it. I will mail it out today and let you guys know how this plays out. Keep the faith, think positive. If the ends are the only issue I will talk to my bother who has access to a machine shop at college (RIT) and see if him and his engineering pals can help me at all.

I feel foolish but I can't get my new shift cable installed. The problem I am having is that I can't get it from the console to the firewall. There is some black plastic under the dash that I can't seem to get by. Can anyone shed ain't light on this for me? Any help greatly appreciated.

It's probably the rear heat duct. It separates from the dash. I forget how it comes out because mine has been gone since about 2005.

So after all this the cable I got is the wrong one. The one I ordered is the longer one with the firewall grommet on it. The one I need is the shorter one that goes in the open space on the grommet.
I followed the cable that I broke to the trans and it looks like the only thing it does is lift a piston up and down. The cable I broke is the one that attached to the shifter closer to the drivers seat.
I am going to take some pics to upload.
