Emergency! Boken shift cable??

Post by StevenJMcTowlie »

I just snapped a shift cable, I need to order a new today because my daily driver is now stuck. My questions is there are two cables, the one I snapped is the one that gets me into 1st and 2nd gear, does anyone know the part # or how to tell which cable to buy ??

You broke a "shift" cable. It's the one that always breaks. The other is a "select" cable...it moves side to side. The shift cable moves forward & back to shift 1-2, 3-4, 5-R.

Beware the repros are not of great quality. They will get you out of a pinch, but won't take much banging gears. I'd look for a used OEM one for a long term fix.

Will this one work?
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carco ... ttype,8245

The part # for the one I pulled is 10186822. It appears to be a GM part. Found one for $130 new, just having trouble finding which one interchanges.

The two I am finding are ATP Y 1515 and ATP Y 1514. From what I have been reading the cables whose part #'s end in 5 are the shift cables and the ones that end in 4 are select cables, just cant confirm this.

The only GM ones left that I've ever seen are select cables. VPI has a ton of selects and no shifts.

OK somebody is going to have to step up and do something about this.
I know Jon made an effort and got sweet f all out of it, but until it renders a bunch of our cars undriveable what shall we do?
My Quad is 22 years old and I would buy one at almost any price in a minute.
It's just a cable. It's the attachment ends that are weird.
C'mon guys!!

He and I tried to get something going on 60 degree too. Samething! I also posted the 60 degree topic on the Quad forums. No one even posted, but there were some views.

Got to wonder if there is a way for a shop that makes cable to splice them.
Rebuild them? What breaks? The cable or the attachments?
If it's the cable that has to be something that can be addressed.
Has to be an answer.

It's where it attaches. There are some upgrades from Rodney Dickman and Booger Bushings.

Well I want one!
I'm keeping my car til I can't drive it any longer and don't want it down for more than a day or two.
Same as most of us.
Let's get a part number, a price and a source.
I will help with this and get it done.
