TIMING CHAIN GUIDES - PLEASE HELP
Re: TIMING CHAIN GUIDES - PLEASE HELP
Lol, you sound like you're taking it personally. I'm just going off my own experience. I'm betting it was revised as a cost saving, and driver comfort measure, rather than being better. As the chain is quieter than the double row, at least at first. That said, going from single to double isn't an upgrade imo, or vice versa.
It's difficult to source parts for the 1st design, but finding the correct cover would be difficult as well as expensive. I presented into and options for both. He's gonna do what he wants, just giving my opinion.
As stated twice, your guides are probably good to go back in,unless your chain was really flopping around in there.

Re: TIMING CHAIN GUIDES - PLEASE HELP
Your thinking double and single in terms of quantity... You need to get that out of your head. It's a single row chain because it does not need two rows of rollers to prevent it from snapping in half with the way it was re-designed. Its the same exact chain thats living up to my cam and aggressive springs and has not stretched. It aggravates me when people get stuck on the "old" way of doing things since they think it's so much better all the time. Engine components were not always revised due to cost savings. If you ask alot of people who do work on/design timing components, they will even say that a chain rarely stretches, but its more the gears it ride against wear out, or the respective part of the chain where it rides will wear out, thats where the play comes from.
Re: TIMING CHAIN GUIDES - PLEASE HELP
Again, I'm not stating nor do I have any hard evidence that the double row is stronger or better than the single row. I do feel it is a downgrade PERSONALLY because having held both chains in my hand, I would rather have two rows rather than one if something catastrophic were to happen. Many on Q4F and other places agree.
I'm saying that every single row chain I've pulled out of a Quad is stretched at least a link in length, whereas the double row isn't. Whether or not that is incidental is up for anyone's interpretation.
My only point was that switching to the new design is costly and as long as your chain is in working order, or you can get parts, it simply doesn't need to be done.
