GM did design the system to be able to use Iridiums... Or at least the exact same hardware used on a 91 beretta is used on a 05 Impala and those come stock with Iridium plugs. The ignition modules are all the same and the coils are all the same.

As far as a champion plug in a GM motor... the brand is not specific to what motor your putting it in... Champion is an acceptable replacement to OEM plugs, granted the price is much cheaper which could result in a cheaper product, but I'm missing the NEED of using a rapidfire plug... I run NGK TR6's COPPER and don't have issues.

One of the reasons you run copper because you spray.

But, copper is a better conductor. If you don't mind replacing them with every oil change, run copper. Platinum is used because it lasts longer.

It's against conventional wisdom to think you'll get better performance from a inferior conductor.

Yes I know why I run copper... ;) My point was just that many different variations of plugs work just fine on the GM dis, even if they came factory with Platinum's because I still run the coppers all the time otherwise and dont have issues... Yes they get replaced every year though.

There are no real benefits to running platinum plugs other than service interval is what I'm saying. Copper is better, plain and simple.

People notice smoother acceleration and smoother starts when putting in platinum plugs. Well, you needed new plugs, whatever flavor.

The gains from Iridium are tremendous. Hence the reason they come stock in most GM's nowadays.
