Champion Iridium Plugs for the Beretta

After noticing a distinct improvement in the performance of my LeBaron after installing four NGK iridium spark plugs, I've been keeping my eye out for iridium plugs for the Beretta. Ordered six Champion 9402's from Rock Auto, $38.00 after 5% discount and including shipping. Best part, $2.50 per plug rebate to send in once the plugs arrive. So I'm getting to put in iridium plugs at about four bucks a piece. I'll provide some feedback once they go in to let you know if they were worth it.

I think both of my 3500's came with iridiums they work well

Why didn't you just go with the NGK or Autolite Iridium's for the 60*?

Simply put, price. NGK would have been 50% more to do the conversion to iridium. The Champion rebate reeled me in and got me off the fence as to whether or not I wanted to even make the jump to iridium plugs. Champions have done well in my Mopar, as well as in my small engines, so I think that they will do fine here.

Scraped my hands up last night, but got the iridium plugs in, and they did not disappoint. Similar results to what I see in the LeBaron: smoother accelerations, and a much smoother engine under load. Glad I checked gap on the plugs, first one dead on, the other five required adjustment. $ 38 delivered from Rock Auto, just sent in $ 15 Champion rebate form.

One final comment: Have not seen any increase in MPG on the LeBaron with iridiums in place, thought that I might. With the back three plugs on the Mopar minivan 3.8L being pure evil to change (been there, done that), don't know as if I'll be as motivated to tackle that one.

Unbolt the cowl and wiper assembly. The entire piece comes out, then you can have direct access to the back of the engine. At least on the Gen 4 vans.... (02-07)

I have a Gen 3 (96-00) van. Did cowl assembly removal first time, did not help much. Mopar boards say easiest way is to pull the plenum to open up the access, may try that someday (if I do the plug change). Did you like my Beretta pics, DTM?

I had autolites in my quad and loved them. Only because I couldn't find an iridium from ngk for it at any parts stores

you can try to 'rock' your driveline to lean forward an gain an inch or two, dont know if it's reverse or drive then ebrake to hold it in the position... i dont know how much front to back movement the mounts in those vans allow as well, but worth a thought and look. also parking on a hill the right way might do the same.

Undoing the motor mount and ratchet strapping the engine forward has worked for me for those vans.

I use two swivels, an 11 inch extension, and a 36 inch extension. You couldn't ask for more room, puts you two feet above the upper intake.

Im still lost on why anyone would put a Champion plug in GM motor???

I use AC Delco Rapid Fires, and so far, i have yet to find a better plug. Even the Iridiums and Platinums dont compare to them. When you have an electronic system that was designed without a platinum plug in mind, you kinda waste your money. Ive had Autolights (platinum and non), Delco IRs, and once tried Bosch Plats, and none of them compare to the AC Rapids. I actually got better mileage and smoother performance with them compared to teh Plats that caused all kinds of misfires.

When you think about it, its like putting an MSD coil on a stock ignition system. Unless you have the rest of the system upgraded, your wasting your money.
