Re: It's Geetee; and I have a GTU and a 3400 engine
Why would I do that when I can just use a 3500 coolant sensor? It'll obviously thread right into the side of the 3500 head and has the same connector as what my cars harness has.

Yeah his 89 only requires the two pin sensor since the dash appears to be run from the ECU's reading of the temp, same exact way as the 3500 ecu works so there is no need for the third pin or second dash sensor.Alpinestar10 wrote:You can get a three wire coolant sensor machined to the correct thread from britichcarconversions.com to bolt onto the heads just be carefull they can snap if overtightened,

Got some more done yesterday. New fuel tank and fuel pump/sending unit installed. Also installed the Eibachs and Bilsteins in the rear. Car looks a good bit lower in the rear already. Now I'm just working on the front end suspension and reassembling the motor. Got some pics.

Brand spankin' new.

Much easier going in than out...

This is the right way to put it on, right Woody? Looolz sorry I couldn't help myself...
Question... I was putting the Fidanza on and I was torquing down the flywheel bolts (which I used red on)... I managed to get at least 3 of them torqued to spec, but there were about 2 or 3 that I couldn't get to torque quite all the way to spec because the damn socket kept slipping off and nearly rounded off the heads... (the stupid fidanza is made with counterbores for each bolt hole which makes the already small flywheel bolt heads redicuously shorter/harder to work with). I didn't want to risk completely destroying the bolts, so I didn't do anymore. They're in there, I cranked down on them and I know they're pretty close to spec and they're also red-loctited... Do you think I'll have any issues if they're a few pounds off of spec?
I ran into a problem when I put a Fidanza into my GTZ, but they only backed out because I didn't even use loc-tite lol... Just want to make sure I won't have an issue this time, really am tired of pulling transmissions out of cars...
Waiting on just a few more parts. I'm gonna go ahead and replace all sensors. I was going to do the oil pressure sending unit, crank sensor, knock sensor, map sensor, and of course the coolant sensor. I can't think of anything else that needs to be changed, did I miss one? (Assuming the sensors from the 3400 TB will clip to the 89's harness).
Jon or Robert or Woody, (assuming any of you have used a UDP), do you remember the size belt you put on that was the right size? Or the part number? I really don't want to play musical belts if I can help it...
Finally understand what I need to do with the fuel lines... Just had to see it in person to get it (I know, stupid visual learner here...) so I'm headed to the junkyard today to get the body side quick connect to adapt to my body lines... I think I'd like to write my own 3400 walk through or add to one, partially due to the difference in digital dash cars (not that many people have them).

Lol.
It'll look good when it's done, it's not going to be all hooptified looking like you're probably expecting.

its easier for me to sit back and laugh. i can't work on anything anymore, arthritis has taken hold of me. I'm actually jealous you are tinkering with your car and I physically can't.

Cool looks like your moving right along.
Are you going to install that MMS camshaft or still not sure?
Any plans for a dyno after your finished?
Poor eric will never hear the end of that will he.

Re: It's Geetee; and I have a GTU and a 3400 engine
No I'm not gonna mess with the cam right now, that would require pretty deep tuning. I've already got more in this build than i intended and I have a GTZ and aurora to tend too... ; )
Got the front suspension all of today. It was all pretty shot. I know I'm gonna have a bitch of a time cleaning the subframe... After that I can pretty much start with reassembly of everything.

I bought a belt 1" shorter than stock, and the tensioner does the rest.

Unfortunately with a custom camshaft or not your still going to need a lot of tuning.Ask anyone thats doen the swap=)
Re: It's Geetee; and I have a GTU and a 3400 engine
That's why I bought the super Dave chip, shouldn't require any kind of tuning at east major tuning that is.

Re: It's Geetee; and I have a GTU and a 3400 engine
You will still want to get a personal touch on it, Daves chip is a base tune that will probably perform ok and keep the car running, but all engine combo's respond differently so you need to do real time data logging and customize the tune for your setup to get peak power out of it.
Re: It's Geetee; and I have a GTU and a 3400 engine
What would be the best way to gather information about my car and how it needs to be tuned? Go to a shop with a dyno and tuning ability? I guess whatever information they gather I can send along with the chip back to Dave if he can readjust the tune based on that data? I don't know much about tuning...

Re: It's Geetee; and I have a GTU and a 3400 engine
you need to either have a pc to data log while your driving to get the road tune dialed in or have the tuner there doing it with you, if you do it yourself and get logs that info would be sent back and forth multiple times between you and the tuner to get a good revision, and then with dyno tuning you really need the tuner there to make the changes realtime, otherwise your just wasting time by doing a pull and logging it and then making changes later, the cost would be much higher to verify those changes made a difference since you would now have to go back.

Re: It's Geetee; and I have a GTU and a 3400 engine
I spent three hundred to have Mp racing attempt to tune my car.
When it was still bone stock besides headers. Then the cost of gas to road tune.He did a horrible job.One day with jon and the car felt a lot better.I went from 15.0 to 14.8 on a shitty track.
