Yes, I agree. You only need to chase the threads, not make new ones. If you make new ones you could run the risk of changing the angle of the plug in the head. Best wishes on getting it done.
Just remember to get the plug tight, turn it a bit more and back it off 1/4 turn an do it all over again until you get it to seat where it should be.

Thanks.. I found a cheap chaser at the part store, don't have any saw to cut the threads on the old plugs anyway, wasn't sure what else to use (for future reference, or for anyone else reading, what else could be used to cut those old threads?)
I've attached a pic.. please confirm i got the correct part.. loads into a deep socket..
am i using this chaser like mentioned before, where you grease it, go in until it's snug (i'd feed it by hand to make sure it's right), then add 1 or 2 turns with the wrench, take it out, clean it, and re-grease and repeat?
Or is there no need to worry about filings in the cylinder when chasing as opposed to tapping so don't keep stopping?
thanks very much..

The grease should pick that stuff up. Remember that your are not making new threads, just redoing the old ones. The problem is that there will be grease in the threads, clean it out as best as you can. Yes, 14mm is the right size.

I can't stress this enough, try to be really sure that you are going in straight... Granted the plugs are angled so that makes it somewhat hard, but try to compare its angle to another plug of the similar direction... you can compare cylinders 2 and 5 for angle 4 and 3 and 6 and 1, the heads are identical just turned 180... so look at one of the front plugs and then look at the rear one to see if its off angle before your remove it, that will let you know if your working with something that's cross threaded.
Re: 95 Beretta 6cyl- intermit rough idle/run/stall
Actually, that's pretty much what i did when it wasn't going in easily the first time.. you guys had mentioned the importance of angle earlier, so i was looking at the plugs next to it, and compared to the ones in front.. thank you
it occurs to me too that the old plug that came out of that cylinder, i don't remember how tough or how many turns, but it came out with the top half of the threads looking moist.. as i tried to put the new one in, when i took it back out to try again, the grease was removed the same amount from the lower half of the threads, so the new resembled the old.. and all the others went just fine.. so pretty sure it was like this before i got to it as this is my first time doing the work..
i'm just wondering, if it's been like that all this time and no one caught it before or told me, i just hope all that driving didnt melt the threads in the lower half of that spark plug hole since it wasn't all the way down.. guess i'll find out shortly..
thanks very much..

There must be a spark to melt the threads. There still is another problem out there. One plug not firing is not going to make the engine stall.

Re: 95 Beretta 6cyl- intermit rough idle/run/stall
ok.. the problem never really went away.. like i said, it's been intermittent.. here's the latest...
i rarely ever drive it anymore for fear of stalling, that's why i haven't been on for a while...
anyway, i did the tune up, couldn't chase the threads cause the socket for the tool was too big to fit, so i just cut the threads on an old plug like someone suggested, cleaned it, lubed, and used that... new one went it... so..
got the tune up done.. been having heavy oil in it 20/50 cause i've been told the lifters are going and it used to be REALLy loud and it's help.. changed the EGR, brought in the coils and ICM for table testing the got the green light, map sensor, plugs, wires, air filter, and if i mentioned anything else I'm forgetting off-hand that was done, but i think that's about it...
Still getting the Same service engine light after driving it for about 15 mins...
NEW symptom, and i hope this helps clinch the diagnosis... yesterday when I took it out, it was a short ride, about 10 mins, no light on the dash... was stopped for about an hour, then left and drove it about 10 mins back, then an hour later about 10 mins back out again to the same place, still no engine light... then about hour and a half later when i left, turned the key, and white smoke puffed badly out the tailpipe, was sputtering really really bad like an earthquake ready to stall, and when the smoke blew into the car it smelled like GAS straight from the pump... took a min to get over the shock of so much white smoke and the smell of gas was overwhelming, then I turned off the car, waited about 3 mins, then tried to turned it back on, and it was running it's less earthquakey rough idle, but the intense smoke had ceased and so had the smell...
the same car once in a rare while will very briefly run so smoothly i think it stalled already, but it hasn't....
ideas anyone? please????
thank you much...

I had also replied to your post over on Bstuff, so... No need to repeat it here, but then I wasn't aware of all the history....

Have you checked your grounds?
Bad/burnt wire someplace?
