MINT 1989 GTU for $1500

Says it needs mechanical work, but the body, paint and interior are in great condition.

The auto transmission is going out and he hit a deer with it last night so it needs a fender and a door.

There are also some oil and trans fluid leaks, at least one of the halfshafts needs to be rebuilt/replaced, the steering makes a hissing noise occasionally but he already replaced the pump so it may actually be the rack, no rear swaybar, the power locks are too weak to work at least on the pass side, one of the tires has a slow leak, a shop didnt take the necessary precautions with the car and ended up knocking the front air dam pretty loose, and there's an INDY drivers side sideskirt on it that had to have a screw drillid into the front to be held on.

Now as for the shape of the body: it's in VERY good shape! The underbody is rust free from what I could see, and the subframes were covered with enough oil and road grime that they haven't gotten any surface rust. The rockers are solid and so are the wheel wells. There are a few scratches and pits but Bob did a good job of covering them up with touch up paint right away to prevent any rusting. The body panels dont all seem to match exactly right color wise but I chalk that up to good ol GM. I did find it odd that he had to put the white strips on the window trim himself as these were supposed to be painted on by C&C but who knows. The mirrors have the blue glass, the interior is in very good shape for its age with a few cig burns and quite a few spots where the headliner is seperating. He says the radio is a bit scratchy but we didnt have it on when he took me for a ride. The ride is still fairly taut for the age of the car but that trans is def going to need to be rebuilt.

Bob is a very cool guy that has done his very best to make sure the car hasn't seen the WI elements since he bought the car back in 94. I spent 2 hrs with him yesterday going over the car and I'm hoping to pick it up from him as soon as insurance gets done making a decision about the deer incident. Then I'll be spending time restoring that one to pure stock form while the black one gets the full build treatment.

That sucks he hit a deer last night. Hope it does not get totaled. Looks like it was/is very nice.

Personally, regarding any car, I'd much rather have a nice car with problems than a shitty looking car with no problems. It's much easier to fix mechanicals than it is to fix looks.

Wish I had some extra cash to go get it, would be sweet to have two GTU's lol The trans would be easy as I have 3 or 4 extra Beretta transmission in the garage I could rebuild for it and throw in it.

As long as the insurance company doesn't screw up the title I plan on picking it up and having the original trans rebuilt. Going to keep this all original with matching #s.
