You have to split apart the housing and the outside lens easy to do

Well, in my case, I had to take my time and I pried it slowly apart. Others have used heat to heat up the tar-like adhesive that holds it together. They can be taken apart without breaking them. There are 3 or 4 hook tabs that have to be released as well, both on the bottom and top lips of the light, (looking from the backside) You might try putting them in the oven at a low temp say 125 or 150, so that they warm up the "tar" and then it can be pulled apart a bit easier.

Make sure to not remove the sealant, or get some new and put back, otherwise you will have foggy tail lights sometimes. You can get that stuff at most auto part places.
