ideas to reuse older flat panel monitor?

Post by themadness »

my father in law brought us 2 older desktops with flat panel monitors. one will be used exclusively for my wifes couponing hobby/business. the other i have no idea what to do with which means i have extra stuff to play around with. the monitors are old enough that the only connection they use is larger pinned plug. no hdmi or any other ports. i've seen the t.v. idea here and there. what else could i use it for? its a 15 inch. it would be wiggly titties if i could find a way to use it in the car or something like that....

I have one thought in my mind, that basically all the laptops have a possibility to turn the picture upside down. So why not to use some smaller old laptop and install it to ceiling of the car? It needs some modification, but still quite good idea IMHO. :D

With 15" monitor go to your car, see where you can put it, then give up, decide it's too big and come back inside with it. Been there done that.

One possibility is to use it as a projector. There are these projector (I don't have a precise word for it) that you will light up, put some A4 film with text on it and then the projector will display it to the wall. Off course that means that you have to dis assembly the monitor and you off course need that projector :D

If you plan on doing any sort of vehicle computer you need to make sure to use all laptop moving parts since they are made to handle moving around during use. I know one powrtuner user decided to make a in car PC and found that to be an issue when using desktop hardware. To be honest a SSD harddisk would be perfect and they are affordable today and weren't when he did this.

A laptop is also good because of the battery backup, so no sudden shut down issues.
