Rainy day at the junkyard

Post by pontiecast »

Don't know why I still go to the yard. Pretty much have all the parts for my '94. Guess I just like looking. It is sad though, seeing neglected cars and trucks. This one caught my eye.

'90 GTZ 5-speed H.O. I would REALLY love to have an Quad GTZ or even Z26 someday. Sucks the ones I find are ready for the crusher. Would have bought this for parts, but I'm moving to PA in a few months and there is no way to transport. This one is rust free unlike any I am sure to find back East.

Found this laying on the ground. Got it for $6.

A little bit of elbow grease and cleaner....

I'll have one some day even if I have to get it one part at a time....

Wow...that cleaned up surprisingly well. I'd be tempted to grab one if I found it at the yard just as a souvenir from my 90GTZ. I kept the sunroof out of that car and now it's on my 91. But I still have the original 3100 UIM from my 95Z that would look good next to a Quad IDI.

Definitely go for the center-console's shift-plate (especially if you are bothering with the shift cables) -those 5-speed ones are hard to find and at least one member here is looking for one in grey. Nice find, too bad it ended up there (instead of in my driveway). How are the door-panels?

Mixer, I will let you know on the ash tray

The door panels looked decent other than the fact some a--hole cut holes in them to remove the GTZ emblems. For some reason here at this particular yard, just about every emblem, interior and exterior, no matter what the car is gone. Oldsmobile, Buick, Chevy, Corsica, Geo Storm, Monte Carlo..... the list goes on and on. AND the people removing them destroy the panel of which the emblem is attached to get it.

Still go for the shift plate, even if it isn't immediately needed. jking18, I have a really nice '90 five-speed shift knob here, I'll send you a PM.

Well, the car was still there but pretty heavily picked through. Someone destroyed the center console. BUT I was able to save the ash tray. themixer, PM coming shortly.

Money pit - nothing salvageable from the cowl. Pieces laying on the ground broken.

The shift handle is in bad shape. Someone melted it around the retaining screw. Maybe with a lighter or something. By the looks of the ash tray and cig lighter, the previous owner was a pretty heavy smoker. Couldn't get the shift cables. Oh, as far as the wheels. they wanted $50 a piece and there are only 3.

I lightly cleaned the ash tray assembly. Hopefully this will work....
