Trip odometer

Post by jeff540 »

my trip odometer stopped working, goes to 9 and just stops.all other gauges work fine.
Do i need to pull the needles on all the gauges to fix this problem?
seems swapping cluster's would be easier, but then my mileage would be off.

what runs the trip odometer? plastic gears, metal gears, stepper motor? anyone!

Plastic gears and they are not all that hard to change or swap.
Of course it ia all driven electronically by that big plug at the back of the cluster.
Guessing it's mechanical though and the gears are fubarred.
Mine broke a couple years ago and I haven't got around to checking it out, BUT I have played with odometers on these cars and they are NOT very complicated to "adjust".
Just have to be patient.
Have fun.
Take a picture of the needles so you can put them back where they were. That simple!!
